I worked at MetLife (More than a year)

    Pros

Complete flexibility and control over the hours that you work.

    Cons

As a new hire, you only get a "base salary" for the first 6 months you work there. After that, you move to 100% commissions. This makes it VERY difficult for new advisors to actually get their business up and running, forcing a lot of people to have to find employment elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on training new hires and actually helping them succeed, instead of just hoping that they'll do well. All the managers seemed to care about was constantly hiring people.

    Pros

Good benefits, good life work balance, great exposure for your next resume

    Cons

Constant change, bottom line oriented, like most companies, upper management is under constant pressure to reduce cost and maximize production.

    Advice to Management

Stop looking at employees as just another number

I have been working at MetLife full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and pay. Tries to be transparent as much as can be. Unlimited earning potential as a sales agent and many perks. Also the products we offer are great products but tend to be a little more costly than most competitors

    Cons

High turnover rate for sales agents. Tough to hit sales goals must be driven and very determined. Weekends and late night shifts are required.

    Advice to Management

Stop Micromanaging the sales department we are not customer service and never will be.

I worked at MetLife full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

hard for me to think of any

    Cons

As an agent you have to pay for rent, phone, fax and email. It is the only employer I know, where you have to pay them to work. They put all your commissions in a pool(or sewer ) of which only 10% is paid weekly. Upon leaving the company they keep the commissions. And during the course of employment, the management tries to brainwash you that how lucky you are to be working for MetLife.

    Advice to Management

Shut down the company .Be truthful when you hire agents about the money they will make and the expenses they will pay to the company.

I worked at MetLife full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people I worked with were amazing.

    Cons

The supervisors and upper management were completely unreasonable and unbending. And your children/spouse or some one in your family takes ill they have used the "unplanned" PTO, or you get a warning. This company is so terrible that I'm amazed that they are still in the USA at all. Everything is either getting sent over seas or half the people are doing the work of the other half. Please save yourself the trauma and go clean toilets at Jack-in-the-Box...

    Advice to Management

Let Lord Vader be a manager, at least you know what you signed up for...
