Anyone can make an impact at Meta

    Pros

Every person is insanely talented at Meta. You learn in one month what you would learn in one year at a normal company. If you show up and care and work hard then you will get the ear of upper management who will be ready to collaborate and temper your ideas to change the course of this path blazing company.

    Cons

You don't always know just how important your roll is because things move so fast and there are so many exciting things. It is easy to forget that iteration is key in a start up and if you lose sight of this then you may lose sight of the vision at Meta which is centered on making a great product that a lot of people will love to use. It can be hard some days at Meta but it is easy to forget that you are literally making the most advanced technology in the world with the most talented individuals. It is a great place. But only join the company if you are ready to be challenged in a lot of ways. It is not for the feint of heart. It is not for a 9 to 5 person who thinks it may be cool to be at a start up. You have to be dedicated to the vision of AR.

So so cool, the future come to life now!

    Pros

I worked for the hardware team. Everyday life at Meta's hardware division was simply “so so so amazing”. The young CTO /Senior VP of research is so passionate about the company & the AR technology space the whole hardware team is completely motivated by his vision, each day! The head of Meta’s hardware division has super strong leadership as well. He must be an Iron man in my opinion. As a startup, the hardware team at Meta is with very limited resources and man-power, but they delivered similar level of hardware experience as the other technical Giants in the AR space, i.e., Microsoft, which have ten times (if not more) resources than what the little startup Meta could provide to its hardware team. Each time when I saw people compare the Microsoft Hololens with Meta 2 side by side, I simply cannot stop thinking that these hardware folks must be superman who are tireless and never stop working. Other than that, I have no other explanation to justify how can they deliver so much, with so little resource, considering Hardware is a well-known costy, man-power intensive tough field.

    Cons

Startup life is not easy, it may not fit into everyone's pocket for sure.

    Misery at Meta

    Pros

    * People are amazing - except the CEO * Technology if the CEO stopped creating one road block after the other * You can leave

    Cons

    * Did you notice all those 5-star reviews are short and not many labeled as helpful? Gee, wonder why... because people were asked/forced to give bogus reviews of Meta (email was sent to all staff). Don't believe the 5-stars * CEO has a huge ego yet extremely insecure and thin-skinned * Firing top people who knew what they were doing * CEO is killing the culture and the company * Everyone wants to leave * Tons of backstabbing and throwing people under the bus by a few who don't know how to do their jobs * Over inflated job titles for people who don't have the skills * Women are treated with disrespect by the CEO * Often hear gossip that the CEO wants a 'young' office * More consultants and contractors running teams because they can't keep talented leaders at the company * CEO treats people like property with total disregard for them as human beings * CEO doesn't care about people - has never asked about personal life - probably doesn't even know who is married and who has children * Leadership has no backbone to stand up to the CEO's raving lunacy * Even the most positive, passionate, and talented people leave because of the misery of working with this incompetent CEO

    Wish it was better

    Pros

The big obvious benefit is getting to work on what you hope will be a breakthrough technology. It's great to be able to work in an environment where you get to think about this new fundamental way of interacting with the future of computing.

    Cons

It's a very toxic work environment that feels very cargo cultish. Making actual progress towards business goals isn't as important as seeming like you've "bought in" by appearing to work really long hours. Having specific suggestions for how to improve things is met with ridicule as implementing them would mean having to admit that things weren't working. An excess of meetings, managers and competing fiefdoms with long hours and very little actual work getting done. As a startup you might expect for things to be dynamic and quick paced, but even the littlest decision must be ratified and approved by a stack of people. I've worked with Fortune 1000 companies that executed faster. The frequent strategy changes result in much of the work you do getting tossed aside. This is very demoralizing when it's the thing you've been killing yourself to complete for weeks as it was very urgent up until the point it was deemed unnecessary.

    Growing and getting results

    Pros

I've been at Meta for 2 years and it's been quite a ride. We've gone from a start-up with a cool idea to a company with a really cool product, It's so satisfying to be a David competing with Goliaths and coming out on top. Besides the product being awesome, the team and management have grown and developed. Really professional with heavy hitters joining all the time. The CEO inspires, circulates among the different teams and is accessible. Beautiful office space, great food, Zen atmosphere, culture of collaboration. Bottom line - I really look forward to every day at Meta.

    Cons

Still not enough engineers, but that's improving. Not really a con, but the reality is if you're not willing to work hard and put out fully, this is not the place for you.

    Pros

Join in the company because the vision of the company attracts me. Even though less than one year, I believe I made the right choice. In the hardware team, we have a young, creative, and deep-vision technology leader; also have a trustworthy, energetic product leader with well-established product development records/skills. It is lucky to have these leadership around to make a beautiful career.

    Cons

Common startup issue: Fast technology progress vs. limited resource.

    Pros

Inspiring work environment with a diverse group of engineers from a variety of disciplines. Pushing the boundaries of AR. Also, great food, provided by Michelin-quality chef!

    Cons

New technology development can occur in fits and starts. This is compounded by the need to educate the market to a new computing platform. The challenge of developing this new platform is not for the faint of heart.
