    Pros

Great colleagues and had so much potential in its early days. The family majority owners were also very kind people.

    Cons

One person destroyed this company and anyone who has worked there knows exactly who that is. Incompetent and sexist to boot.

    Advice to Management

None to be given as this company was acquired by Compugen which hopefully will clean up the mess that was created

    Pros

The company has no clear plan to execute on. So it creates a great opportunity to build and execute this plan.

    Cons

Owners sold some assets of the company and let go most of the employees. Nothing else to do with this company.

    Advice to Management

You should have had let go your employees by yourself instead of asking doing this task to the new asset owner. This is not a great respect for your employees that help you build this company.

I have been working at Metafore Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get a paycheck that pays for your bills. Some good team mates and made some friends along the line. But that's all.

    Cons

Lack of leadership, poor management, useless HR department. Don't understand how come the CEO never noticed that the Toronto IT director was killing the company.

    Advice to Management

Stop running this company like a Zoo, Bill the IT Director thinks that he's a Zoo keeper, the worst director ever, the man cannot even look at the employees face and greet them. Poor HR department who's not there for the employees but for the management team. The association of this individuals end up in the company being sold to the competition (Compugen)

    Pros

Second Friday off, alright working hours, lenient dress code

    Cons

Worst management ever, favouritism and possible racism. Fear based managing strategies. No upward movement. With management I mean the service desk manager who spoonfeeds and puppets everyone, lack of managing experience or general management skills. Dictatorship environment. Worst company to work with. Politics and lies prevail.

    Advice to Management

Stop dictating, distrusting and let people do the job they are hired for. Upward movement should be based on knowledge and skill. As well not on buttering technique. The best advice to the top is to get rid of the petty managers and hire new people before damage is extensive

I have been working at Metafore Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Management in Services division is excellent which is very unusual. RRSP matching is decent at 3% of salary per year. Some flex time available and ability to work from home. Many of the fat-cat uninspired middle management who didn't have a clue are gone or almost out the door.

    Cons

If you are talented and considering working for Metafore, just be aware that everyone is under a pay-freeze for all of 2014.. Services managers are excellent but I suspect they will leave when they figure out that no one in Hartco understands that you can't run a high-tech IT services company like a 1980's retail store. The CEO might be related to the owners because it is beyond belief why he hasn't been fired. C-level talks the IT talk but doesn't seem to comprehend and certainly doesn't use the concepts in-house. Many great people at Metafore, but the parent company thwarts their efforts of trying to turn Metafore into the best IT services company in Canada. Owners and C-levels have caused many of the high-performing services employees to quit and are preventing new ones from being hired. Owners and CEO are micro-managers and see nothing wrong with their destructive style. The new management computing system is untrustworthy and incorrectly implemented so expect to do a lot of error checking. The Hartco parent company has been for sale for over half a year and not even a rumour of a potential buyer. No surprise.

    Advice to Management

Trim down or eliminate the Hartco top-heavy hungry hippo and let Metafore be a truly agile competitor in the IT industry. CEO should resign. Better yet, offer the CEO a golden hand-shake layoff and don't replace him. Most C-levels and board members are irrelevant since the MicroAge franchise and the distribution arm were sold off. Not sure why Hartco adds a surcharge to the merchandise distributed through TechData as all it means is loss of sale and less money to Metafore that truly could be thriving. Go private. You are lucky that you still have several all-stars working for you in services & consulting so do something impressive before you lose them too.

I worked at Metafore Technologies (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pros are coming from the customers, not from Metafore. No leadership, no vision, no communication... only greed from the upper management. This company is stuck in the 60's as far as people management... Don't bring your modern ideas, they will be shut down and you'll be let go!

    Cons

No people management whatsoever. People are told they can freely talk about anything.... that's a lie. People with experience, education and skills are not welcome there... and will never be promoted. Due to this the turn-over is high and the service to clients is at best poor. The middle management is not skilled, not-educated and has no clue about people management. And HR is worse! Salary are sub-par because the company is too greedy... which did not avoid them to be in a bad economical situation. BTW, the company has been for sale for more than 6 months and still does not attract a lot of buyers...

I have been working at Metafore Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some strong technical people have been working here, most are gone but even the remaining are cool people to work with
They offer RRSP matching but only match 3% of your based salary
They offer some benefits not class A, but something between class D to F

    Cons

-So many managers who actually are not up to date with recent technology , level of communication is zero
    - Have seen incidents of bullying which resulted an upset employee to leave the company
    - They have a performance review program every year which looks like retail stores, basically not matter how hard you work and what achievements you had , it does not matter, you might get a small raise , or some years nothing, salaries are freezes but big guys still get their bonus
    - Too much negative politics around
    - There are techs working in this company with certification they don't even carry
-CEO likes more to promote his music band rather than inspiring employees who work in IT industry

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees, do not let the good employee leave at any cost , they build a strong company not the micro management methods
Communicate more with higher level managers, be the voice of your teams, promote their ideas

I worked at Metafore Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    None while I was there

    Cons

No structure, inconsistent policies, treat employees like commodities, no growth from internal, no training incentives, very low pay for double the work.

I worked for Metafore for 3 years in the Oil and Gas sector through 4 different positions.

During my first position as a service desk weekend analyst, I was there for a month when they decided to dump work from another department on us. We hadn't been trained, and had no idea how to do this work, but they insisted that we do it based on a clause in our employee agreement that stated "additional duties as required" Problem being, that wasn't in my employee letter.

When I pointed this out, and refused to do the new work without training they told me I had a bad attitude and put me on a PIP (Performance improvement plan) without any warning , or previous discussion *By their own rules, an employee must receive a verbal warning, then a written warning, and then it goes to a PIP, I never received the first two, they jumped right to the end*

After disputing the PIP, I was told that I was given training , as a Service Delivery Lead of the other group signed a sworn affidavit that he gave us training (Although he did not give us one iota)

Instead of my manager listening to me, or investigating at all - In his words "I could check the timestamps and what not, but I'm not going too"

I was also constantly bullied by my team lead when I came in. He would pull me aside and chew me out for calls I wasn't involve in, chide me for doing things he never asked me to do, and he would examine my work and then call out faults that had never even been mentioned in training, and then dump on me for not knowing them. He was an absolute bully.

I told metafore about him, and they did nothing. It wasn't addressed at all.

After that, I was transferred to a new "contract" where I was supposed to have a job as a Project Technician. I sat in a room for 3 months doing nothing, asking everyday what my job was supposed to be, but they didn't even have a job description for me. So when I took sick days because I couldn't stand coming into work anymore to do noting (Literally, I had no job or function but they paid me - I had to show up and sit in a room for 8 hours) They put me another PIP (Again without proper process, or notice or anything, AND for using the sick days THEY gave me)

During this whole time I was at Metafore I was passed over for a job 4 times, one in which I have 10 years experience and I am certified. I saw them promote people brand new to service desk into team positions, and the management doesn't give a hoot at all.

Do not go to work for metafore under any circumstances. Anything they are offering you is a falacy, they will lie, and bend every rule and technicalitiy they can to screw you over. You will get paid low wages for the work of 3 people, and then constantly dumped on.

    Advice to Management

Get your head out of your butt and realize the employees you have, are ALL you have. You have lost me and many of my talented friends because of your TERRIBLE business practices and complete lack of understanding and ethics.

I worked at Metafore Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They have the capabilities to do some interesting projects and the critical mass to be involved in large customers.

    Cons

Pay is below average and management worked very hard to prevent paying sales reps commissions. The comp plan is complicated by design and they used every technicality in the book to avoid paying reps for deals they closed. There is a culture of failure and the door of sales reps is constantly revolving. There are a few people who have been there for a long time but I saw alot of sales people come and go after only a few months.

    Advice to Management

Pay your reps the money they are owed.

I have been working at Metafore Technologies as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great team below the management and team leadership level. It was an opportunity when I needed work but leaving before my contract is up. I do not recommend this company to anyone.

    Cons

Due to staff shortage more and more work are being piled on to the staff. Work goes mostly unnoticed unless something goes wrong. Management/Leadership team does not seem to know what is going on and lacks the ability to motivate and give team members confidence. There are non existent reviews and no incentives short of trying to keep a job in order to keep a steady pay check. People routinely work without signed contracts or any information about extensions of contracts.
Because of staff shortages and apparent refusal to hire additional help many people are developing an I don’t care anymore attitude to match the support level they seem to be receiving.
When the company seems to be having an issue with profits it’s the staff the staff are treated as though they do not matter and to work harder to make the owners more money.

    Advice to Management

Learn to appreciate your staff more. They are people and not material assets. Work to stregthen your teams and not undermind their abilities. Remember that it's your front line workers and staff that make the company successful. Given the attitude witnessed to your staff I would recommend shutting the company down to save face or reevaluating your company philosophy and changing your approch to staff.
