I worked at Metafore Technologies full-time

    Pros

Awesome working with the folks there. A lot of fun people. Good opportunity to advance. Cool technologies to work with.

    Cons

Management tried to balance the books by limiting spending instead of by increasing revenues. Too bad the owner needed to sell the business.

    Advice to Management

Don't sell the company for much less than it's worth. Many employees will be without jobs in this situation (hindsight)

"The first 9 years were great ... the last 1 year a daily grind"

I worked at Metafore Technologies full-time

    Pros

I worked for Metafore for a little over 10 years. For the first 9 years I was contracted full-time onsite to a client's location. It was a really great job while onsite. My billable utilization was always 100%, and at times a lot more during projects or overtime.

    Cons

When the full-time onsite role ended I was reassigned to a short-term onsite position at another client. My billable utilization was still 100%. But when that ended, it then became a daily grind of trying to maintain enough billable utilization hours through either dispatch break-fix service calls, or IMAC, or walk-in bench repair work. I had no control over how many dispatch calls I received or walk-in bench work walked in, and big brother always monitored your billable utilization and reported back your metrics, making you sweat and dread every week to be told you were not bringing in enough revenue to justify your keep. It wasn't exactly said like that, but it was clearly implied, and you heard the rumors of eventual let go's. Eventually, due to a number of other onsite contracts ending with now other technicians coming back in-house, there just wasn't enough work at that time to keep everyone going so I along with several others were told our services were no longer required and were packaged out. So much for over 10 years of loyalty and 9 years of being billable at 100%.

    Advice to Management

Management did offer certain select software and hardware training to pick up additional certifications to pad your resume with, but they didn't offer career planning to help you determine your strengths, interests, weaknesses, and dislikes in order to help you find where your strengths and interests could best be utilized within their organization, and where your weaknesses and dislikes could possibly be minimized in future roles.

I worked at Metafore Technologies as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The company allows you the opportunity to work in many different industries as they sub-contract you out to companies that need onsite services. I gained a lot of skills and enjoyed my time there as I was deployed to 4 different work sites during my employment with them. A great stepping stone to gain knowledge and experience.

    Cons

The pay was below average and they are reluctant to hire their workers on full time even after years of service.

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep more of your good employees you have to bite the bullet and offer them full time packages.

    Pros

Mostly left alone by Metafore to work at the client site.
    RRSP program

    Cons

Client location separate from Metafore. Little contact with Metafore and didn't feel part of the company.
Metafore is someplace to work until you work someplace else. Because it's an IT outsourcing company they keep things pretty tight cost wise.
Experiences with Metafore will vary from contract to contract.

    Advice to Management

    None.
