I worked at Metro Dentalcare part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

opportunities for experience working with multiple docs and staff exist, clinical staff is pleasant and helpful for the most part although underpaid (assist), and since hygiene schedules their own patients and sometimes post their own procedures, this is the optimal front desk position if you want time to surf the web and do a fraction of front desk duties compared to private practice, keeping in mind that the pay is relative.

    Cons

First they took away the hygienist wage and replaced it with commission which caused strife within the clinical staff....no hygiene patient, no hygiene pay...since hygienist is paid on commission, you always wonder if treatment provided is necessary. Hygiene operates like a business within a business: data entry of all initial paperwork, knowledge of patient insurance and coverage, scheduling patients, clinical documentation of perio and dentition, performing the prophy, infection control and turning their room around. Who needs the front desk in the hygiene department? As soon as they have patients check in on their own, and transact copay and coinsurance on a walk-in kiosk, the answer is NO ONE. No sick time, holiday, personal paid time off. This is all calculated on such a convoluted commission formula that a hygienist with an accounting degree could easily be baffled by......Medical benefits? …ridiculously expensive. Too many middle managers doing micromanagement, and upper level management is completely out of touch. They need to get rid of those extra positions and pay the clinical staff more since they are actually driving the revenue and making patient relationships....also high turnover of dds....small chance for patient continuity of care.

    Advice to Management

Realize that Metro isn't the best or the only dental company in the Minneaplois area. Respect your employees before they all leave and take their patients with them. Give the hygienist their hourly pay back!!!!...realize that paying hygiene on commission is just a plain bad business model. Also, this company is the last hold out for any hygienist, they are clamoring to work elsewhere before being forced out of desperation to take a position at metro dentalcare. I would have given a zero rating for metro if i could have.

I have been working at Metro Dentalcare part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with! Everyone is like family and works as teams. The dentists are very knowledgable and always helpful!

    Cons

The pay is lower than industry and reviews are conveniently forgotten about, which means no raises! The hours are either open really early or stay really late, which can be hard with families.

    Advice to Management

Remember without employees, there is no business! Managers are often no where to be found and there is usually one manager for two offices.

    Pros

The only thing I enjoy about this job are my coworkers

    Cons

The pay is good in the beginning but as a PSR I can see why nobody ever gets a raise here. They do not treat their employees well and they have a total disregard for your thoughts and opinions. They will fire or "lay you off" without a seconds thought and act like it's a decision coming from the top. They often obsorb patients outstanding balances so they don't have to deal with delinquent accounts and do not follow the policies and procedures they set up. Everyday I leave frustrated about a new thing.

    Advice to Management

Get a grip and realize that this isn't the best or the only dental company out there. Respect your employees before they all leave and take their patients with them.
