I have been working at Metrolinx

    Pros

The pay is good. You do very little

    Cons

This company is horrible. There is a complete lack of direction from the top down. Managers complain about their bosses not knowing anything. In reality they know very little themselves. Being successful in this company comes by means of 2 things. 1 popularity 2 your ability to use catch phrases of the day Being a leader is not encouraged as directors will tell you that the company sees a lot of potential in you... and then your voice is muzzled as you are rarely invited into the conversation. Only Yes men get invited into the conversation as their lack of actual knowledge does not shine a light on their superiors ineptitude. The hell with this company

    Advice to Management

You need a reality check. Stop highlighting the worst of us as our brightest lights. You even highlight these people in videos at town halls where they look stupid. It’s funny yes that the best and brightest play up to their poor reputations but it’s discouraging to everyone else. Maybe you should start recognizing people who are worthy or praise instead of losing them in the never ending brain drain.

I worked at Metrolinx full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great benefits Work life balance (working from home) Pleasant employees

    Cons

Nepotism - Directors and Managers are hired not based on qualification/credentials but rather on friendship. Ignorance - the upper management lacks common sense let know knowledge in the field they oversee. This leads to poor management of employees and misleading staff with poor directions. HR - Their HR division is nothing short of a disaster. Salary reviews are common at Metrolinx because the HR doesn’t do... their research on industry standard when assigning a pay band to a newly created position. Poor management skills - Managers need training in managing staff and conflict resolution. No concept of foresight and employee issues are not addressed in a timely manner resulting in a high turnover rate. This company is incapable of retaining talent. Check their turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

Hire/promote qualified individuals based on credentials as opposed to nepotism Focus on hiring knowledgeable HR employees. The CEO needs to turn his attention to internal affairs especially HR. You can’t fix the infrastructure (build RER, LRT, BRTs and the new proposed transit lines) of Ontario if you can’t even retain your good employees.

I have been working at Metrolinx full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Decent pay and benefits

    Cons

Predatory Hiring practices. They tell you they are a rapidly expanding company but all growth is P3 outsource so no future for trades people. Outsourcing everything. No communication from management ever and the ATU union is just a company puppet that only looks after bus drivers. Nobody else. Management knows union is a fraud and does not fallow collective agreement ever. Stay away skilled people

    Advice to Management

Stop Predatory hiring practices. Fallow the Collective agreement Some communication would staff would be helpful

I have been working at Metrolinx full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Senior Management Team have been refreshed in 2017-2018 with new people who are outstanding leaders. Benefits package Great corporate mandate to improve transportation in the region

    Cons

    - IT kept "transforming" only to suit the purpose of power hungry senior management. - Transformation happened in 2015 and 2018, both drafted by the consulting firm XXX (3 letters) to expand the power of one person. - Full time people get pushed aside unless you are a "yes" person - Contract PMs and PgM , full time mgrs are all brought in and are connected to one exec. - Lots of contractors are paper... pushers and do make-believe work to fill time while the 'transformation' go on. - the environment is toxic because it operates with fear and intimidation. If you speak up, you are the target. Dedicated workers and full time people just work heads down ,keep silent or leave. - Lots of make-believe team events/communications to camouflage the toxic colour of the place. Senior Management does it for show. - Full time people get no recognition (unless you are in the in-crowd) . Connected contractors frequently get rate increase even if they are incompetent. instead, they hire more contractors to cover up for the incompetent ones. - Incompetent people run the show while the competent people leave or hide under the radar, hoping the 'transformation' will finish soon or the executives leave. - The waste of tax payer's money in projects that are over-estimated, over-priced and stretched to long delivery time with no results. Lots of reports and churn in data to cover up the problem. - Poor governance and no control in spending. - Training is given to the selected few. - We made a few contractors into millionaires while the full time people cannot get raises unless you are in the union. - Employee survey is a joke because they get 'code' assigned to each survey and no one acts on them. they get sugar coded into training, education etc. as remediation actions.

    Advice to Management

Audit on projects, SOW and really look at the results Map out the nepotism map of hiring , first contractors then full time Build trust with the "soldiers" and then encourage them to speak up
