I worked at Metrolinx full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great benefits Work life balance (working from home) Pleasant employees

    Cons

Nepotism - Directors and Managers are hired not based on qualification/credentials but rather on friendship. Ignorance - the upper management lacks common sense let know knowledge in the field they oversee. This leads to poor management of employees and misleading staff with poor directions. HR - Their HR division is nothing short of a disaster. Salary reviews are common at Metrolinx because the HR doesn’t do their...

    Advice to Management

Hire/promote qualified individuals based on credentials as opposed to nepotism Focus on hiring knowledgeable HR employees. The CEO needs to turn his attention to internal affairs especially HR. You can’t fix the infrastructure (build RER, LRT, BRTs and the new proposed transit lines) of Ontario if you can’t even retain your good employees.

I have been working at Metrolinx full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work life balance Reasonable management Interesting work Fast career progression for women Good salary and benefits

    Cons

Too many consultants trying to change things, sometimes against legislation. The new CEO has brought an army of Europeans to run the show. Many women are promoted well above their competence level. This may be good for them, but the organization is hurting. Extremely slow approval processes

    Advice to Management

Appoint the best to senior positions not based on quotas. Use the talent you have, no need to import or pay fortunes to consultants. Expedite contract approval processes please it actually cost us money to be as slow as we are.

    I worked at Metrolinx full-time

    Pros

Good work life balance. Free usage of the GO Train. Some interesting transportation projects.

    Cons

I&IT management has no clue what they are doing. One angry manager is constantly trying to disrupt the work; many have complained, nothing is done because he is a member of a protected demographic. Incompetent management team often produces sub-par results on projects, unfairly damaging the reputations of the employees beneath them.

    Advice to Management

Hire some people into management that know what they are doing. Stop the fake and artificial diversity by only hiring people from Liberal-protected demographics. Get rid of the solution managers: there are so many functional defects with the online timetables in the latest website release in March 2018. In fact, replace the entire I&IT management team would be good as the only qualifications they seem to possess...

I have been working at Metrolinx full-time

    Pros

Metrolinx is a great company to work for. Its a public company so there is more job security, pension and great benefits. The benefits include $450 for several different medical services covered Manulife. This includes Massages, physiotherapy, orthopedic and so on. Most of these services are now offered by many companies so nothing special here. The work/life balance is really good with most managers being understanding...

    Cons

Some departments are very archaic and have an old way of thinking. Some departments are not very progressive and they hold back employees who want to adapt with current technologies.

I have been working at Metrolinx full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits, work life balance, job security, was a place that really cared in the past, does a great public service, frontline is awesome, processes in place on the books are ironclad but they are being bent too much by upstarts and those who circumvent process for their own gains and end.

    Cons

Bloated management (everyone is a manager and none of them do any work), executive fail to listen to satisfaction survey results and instead of remedying issues give themselves large raises, hiring processes interfered with by directors so why do they even do score sheets in interviews, loudest mouth usually trumps reason, many knowitalls, poor compensation for veteran employees,

    Advice to Management

Value loyalty, promote from within based on merit consider a program like bamboo hr to remove nepotism and promote properly, compensate long term staff fairly, listen to satisfaction survey results and get off your high horse

    No opinion of CEO

    I worked at Metrolinx full-time

    Pros

Great work life balance - Employees are able to work from home from time to time. Managers give employees the autonomy to deliver.

    Cons

Quality of work - There is very little design work available to actual employees. Most of the work is providing feedback on design changes.

    Pros

    - benefits are good - most people are great to work with and are engaged / sometimes quite pressured too - provide the tools to work well - work life balance, depends a bit of the department - great projects to transform the region coming up throughout the company

    Cons

    - some individuals can be quite "abrasive" and get away with it

    Advice to Management

Improved quite a lot ... Keep doing good work

I worked at Metrolinx full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent work life balance Quiet and relaxed environment Pay is decent People in general are pretty nice Great lake front location

    Cons

Slow and boring, you could literally sleep all day and not get noticed Vendors do all of the work, little talent maintained in house No direction from management Govt. Agency trying to act like a private organization but it just doesn't work.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the lazy govt. worker mentality and motovate your people to perform well. Get rid of the multiple layers of beuracracy that stifle passion and challenge within the organization Stop focusing everything on GO. The Presto side is virtually ignored.
