I have been working at Metropolitan Community College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to teach a variety of classes
    Nice colleagues

    Cons

    Low pay
College is run on 80-85% part-time or contingent faculty

    Advice to Management

If you are going to rely on adjunct labor to run your institution, saving literally hundreds of thousands - if not millions - of dollars, spend some on making your labor pool feel welcome. Build nice offices instead of sticking us in your mailroom with a handful of computers.

    Pros

The people at MCC are incredible. It is a great place to work!

    Cons

The only downfall is that it can be difficult to get a full-time position.

I worked at Metropolitan Community College part-time

    Pros

Professional growth and valuable teaching experience.

    Cons

Planning time is not factored in to pay, as it will never be in most teaching positions it seems.

I have been working at Metropolitan Community College (Less than a year)

    Pros

Metro has a wonderful staff, a wonderful student body, and a wonderful atmosphere. The Elkhorn campus is very inviting and always has something going on.

    Cons

Unfortunately, by only being allowed to work part time, I was only allowed to work 20hrs a week.

I have been working at Metropolitan Community College part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is good for part-time regular especially if this is a extra income position

    Cons

My department has almost completely turned over regarding regular staff in less than 5 years (at least 90% or more). I am nearly the most senior. This should be very telling to the executive admins about leadership in this department.

    Advice to Management

treat part-time regular employees the same as regular. pro-rated benefits in ALL areas and not just sick and annual leave. Allow part-time regular to participate in medical, retirement benefits on a pro-rated basis. There are only 40-50 PTR's at MCC to begin with, what is the big deal??

I worked at Metropolitan Community College full-time

    Pros

Only worth it if you are a faculty, but even then you jump through hoops.

    Cons

Once you are in a position, you are pretty much stuck there unless you know somebody,

    Advice to Management

It doesn't matter; they don't listen.
