    Advice to Management

listen to your employees!! care enough to acknowledge them...listen to their concerns...or at least listen to the exit interviews, take them to heart, and act on them

I worked at Metropolitan Market full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The union, UFCW, provides standards for medical, pay, vacation time, etc.- as well as a few scheduling rules like requiring 10 hours between shifts. The company offers a good discount (15-30%), 2 weeks of vacation after 1 year, and a subsidized bus pass/ORCA program.

    Cons

They are extremely customer centered, but seem to forget about employee morale. Inconsistent enforcement of rules, "clique-ish" environment, and it can be difficult or impossible to get the schedule or position you need. Managers tend to be condescending and curt. It's a high-end store, so many customers have extremely high expectations, are often rude, and seem to expect that you'll know what they want- without telling you. If a customer complains, you'll hear about it, even if it was an entirely illegitimate complaint.

    Advice to Management

Make some effort to show you care about your employees, and make respectful communication a requirement.

I have been working at Metropolitan Market full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

consistent hours, decent pay, flexible schedule, new CEO (Ron Megahan) who actually cares about customers and workers.

    Cons

Poor store management, Corporate Office have a lot of unproductive highly paid managers/directors.
Promotion is based on who you know, not your skills.
Store managers (several locations) don't invest time to train new employees for success.

    Advice to Management

The store management at several location need to start listening to their workers and open for ideas. A lot of dictatorship with closed mind in the management. They need to start hiring people who is actually got the skill set instead of who you know especially in corporate office.

I have been working at Metropolitan Market (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Middle- Management = Incompetency and poor Bad NEGATIVE Morale.

    Cons

Why can't Metro M. hire cleaner hygiene conscious workers?.... especially in Deli and Produce....Just looking at these shady people ruins one's appetite. Central Market, PCC, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe's have CLEANER...SHARPER looking crews....one wonders how Metro M. can sell bananas let alone fried chicken? Amazon Whole Foods and PCC have way better healthy alternatives.

    Advice to Management

Not even other Department employees eat the sloppily handled deli foods.

I have been working at Metropolitan Market part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-The benefits that come with joining the union with medicare, needs to stay 3 months to get them though.
-Great people to work with and the time is portioned out nicely on a pay per hour
-They have active training and your first day will be a full hands on training approach
-The environment is open and bright so it doesn't feel so cramped inside, like stores without windows, ect.

    Cons

Inconsistent times on your schedule depending on your position and it is dependent on other employees (may need to take over shifts if they're sick, on vacation, ect.) General things on that nature
