    Cons

Stressful, shift work, holidays, midnights, low pay, dangerous and not appreciated.

I have been working at Metropolitan Police Department of Washington DC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ok pay. Many OT opportunities. Good Specialized units.

    Cons

Outdated equipment. Outgunned by the populace. No tazers. Harsh punishment to officers by dept if you make a mistake. Judicial system of DC does not have your back and if you get attacked on the job no justice will be served to the suspect. Alot of cases get no papered and suspects go off free with no charges. No bail system in DC so suspects are out within a few hours and dont return to court since there is no incentive hence they incur bench warrants. Since we have no bail system there are no bail bondsmen to get these individuals so your essentially doing double the work as a bounty hunter and police officer. Last but not least one of the weakest unions in the nation.

    Advice to Management

Trust your officers and worry less about politics. Give officers more tools to defend themselves such as tasers, only giving a sgt a taser shows how little you trust the officers on the street. The majority of the police forces in the US have better guns and tasers. Also have a progressive system for officers who make mistakes instead of hitting them as hard as you can with punishment.

    Approves of CEO

I worked at Metropolitan Police Department of Washington DC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay and retirement are pretty good. Lots of different specialized units to join and lots of trading if you want it. Job provides a variety of new challenges every day.

    Cons

Agency sometimes focuses more on keeping citizens happy rather than actually keeping citizens safe. Department has become too politically motivated rather than neutral enforcers of the law.

    Advice to Management

Encourage young officers to actually actively “police” rather than just take take reports. Recognize achievements.
