Heavily depends on your manager

Some good people/managers Great benefits and pay A lot of personal time (sick and vacation)
Cons
If you have a bad supervisor, you are screwed. The company does not listen to people not in management positions. I had an issue with my manager harassing me and HR, EEO and Labor Relations stood by and let the abuse happen. This manager also has a pending lawsuit from my coworker and the last two employees under him quit.

a lot to like but also very tough

If believe in the MTA's mission and its criticality to New York City, it can be an extremely rewarding place to work. People take a lot of pride in what we do and you can feel like you're making a contribution (though it often feels like a part of a part of a part of a piece of the whole).
Cons
It can be really hard to get things done through many layers of bureaucracy and middle managers who shut things down. There isn't enough attention to improving culture and employee experience.

Pros
If you want a no layoff job with overtime opportuinty this is the place. If you are flexible on hours you can find a niche to hide your whole 25 years here if that is what you want.
Cons
When something is designated a priority everything else suffers. Some of the most corrupt people got promoted in the ERO and Line Manager programs. The Sabbath Observers run the place.

A huge public agency with a diversity of opportunities and problems
Jun 14, 2015 - Anonymous Employee in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Many excellent colleagues who are devoted to public service and are experts in their respective fields. A lot of opportunity and freedom to do excellent work, if you are in the right position and department.
Cons
Many, many layers of bureaucracy and overlapping areas of authority. Too many middle-managers with no real function, authority, or accountability. In many departments, a culture where non-performing and even troublesome employees can survive for decades because managers don't want to go through the trouble of terminating them.

Pros
Great benefits Easy going management Competitive pay
Cons
Most real engineering work is contracted out. Engineers are more of project managers
- Current Intern★★★★★
Pros
Friendly Staff and managers. People are willing to help when needed. There are multiple managers on one floor but one of them is extremely nice and caring
Cons
Everyone works in cubicles which makes it hard to interact with people sometimes. - Food in the area is very expensive
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
I was lucky to get a good manager who was keen to teach me. Not very hectic. If you have a family this is a good place.
Cons
Not very easy to get promotions

Pros
I really appreciated learning about the company. I was very excited learning the data center. Manager initiales différent projects to help keep students busy.
Cons
Too big of a bureaucracy. It is however understandable for a public company of its size. Interns need to get more involved.
