Pros
Union is the only saving grace. Benefits are good. Pay is good for someone without college better than a lot of jobs that require college.
Cons
No work life balance. Changing schedule every three months. Safety isn’t guaranteed. Management and organization constantly trying to fire you so they don’t have to pay your pension. If you get sick or family member sick or you have an incident in your life they have zero compassion and will try to take your job away .

Cons
Location (underneath Empire Outlets) Cheap with pay and overtime (Paid less than conductors in other boroughs) Too many Supervisors (Dispatchers are nasty to you in person and over radio) Have to cross 12 train tracks just to clock into work Too strict with rules, Management are anal about everything Have to fill out a paper for any overtime and have it signed each time Training done in cramped areas for too many weeks with nasty staff Too much taken out each check for union dues and pension Union is called SMART not TWU and they terrible They have you do two jobs flagger and conductor for only $22 an hour Trains are outdated (50 years old) breaks are bad and trains slide Lunch Breaks are only 30 mins paid and they make you work through them if understaffed Have you work 9 hours some days and only pay you for 8 No parking at headquarters Alot of turnover Food is expensive around headquarters Very dangerous job for pay Job is like Big Brother video cameras everywhere constantly being watched by Dispatchers Always understaffed because of low pay Alot of homeless and drunks you have to kick off train after a break which cuts into your breaks One day notice for your day off

Work on Different Aspects of IT Infrastructure from Ground Up on Projects.
Cons
FT Pay Structure/Range set based on years of service and experience, similar to Military Service. Since 2015; MTA-IT is now State Controlled and Retirement is No Longer Employer Defined (Pension) but Employee Defined (401K).

Train Service Supervisor
Dec 2, 2017 - Train Service Supervisor in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Job security. Plenty of opportunities for advancement and I believe it to be one of the most diverse workforces in the world. I spent almost 37 years there and was able to retire with a great pension and lifetime medical benefits. I had a great career; the job is what you make of it and I have no regrets.
Cons
The job is 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. You will spend a lot of time away from family and friends; the family needs to be understanding. Once you get into supervision / management, you see a lot of what drives the MTA is politically driven and media / publicity sensitive.

Pros
Stable, projects feeding the life line of NYC. If you are looking for a steady paycheck and pension after a few decades of your professional career - this is the place.
Cons
Antiquated and stuck in old ways. Lost in sauce if you are looking to shine, this isn’t the place. You will be one of many.

Easily the worse culture there is..
Mar 7, 2023 - IT Support Specialist in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great Benefits including monthly transportation pass and pension
Cons
Even for a State/Government agency, the culture is horrible. Leadership lacks any backbone and sways with the wind. They direct you to do one thing, and you get blamed for that same. Some even curse and yell at their team People are "entitled" here and I think the public would be surprised how much Wa$te of $$$ happens here.

Absolutely love the work, but company practices leave much to be desired.

being outdoors, meeting people while taking tolls, giving directions and feeling I've helped. Most staff very kind and helpful
Cons
the city doesn't want to hire anymore permanent office employees and pay benefits or pensions. They take advantage of desperate people to work a max of ONE year, and then we're on our own. And the permanebt officers treat us as just passing thru, no respect..
