MTA Audit Department--Most Awful to work for

Nov 13, 2013 - Auditor in New York, NY
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Free commuters pass, 3 weeks paid vacation in first year of service

    Cons

No pay increase since past five years; audit department doesn't follow the organization's policies, rather keep creating their own; A junior auditor does thrice the work and the senior auditor does nothing almost and takes hefty salary; extremely hard on employees, no room for professional or personal growth, False promises regarding promotions in the interview, no training to the newly hired auditors, violates IIA standards on supervision and adequate training. CAE is a big idiot. Current CAE including the three assistant auditor generals should be thrown out ASAP; need drastic change in the management; tone at the top--highly unprofessional; bloated bureaucracy to the core. So much so much exploitation. Please please please DO NOT APPLY TO THE AUDIT DEPARTMENT OF THE MTA.

    Pros

They offer great health and welfare benefits. The vacation and sick time is very reasonable. They offer tuition reimbursement. You receive a free EZ Pass for you commute if your a driver. There is room for growth and opportunities within the MTA umbrella. The work culture is very professional.

    Cons

With some of the other MTA agencies you have an option of a free Metro Card, LIRR or Metro North pass. However, with Bridges and Tunnels you are only allowed to have an EZ Pass.

Good career path and excellent benefits at NYC Transit

Aug 27, 2014 - Prin Trans Planner in New York, NY
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

There was a lot of room for career growth and advancement opportunities. NYC Transit is the highest paid MTA State Agency. Benefits included a Pension, Deferred Comp, and great Medical Benefits just to name a few. The free employee MetroCard saved me hundreds of dollars per year in transportation costs.

    Cons

It's difficult to get people to retire. Some employees are so comfortable they act like they never want to leave. At a certain point, they need to give the next generation a chance to grow and prosper with the company. Also, I wasn't a big fan of the timekeeping system. All employees were required to clock in and out.
