    Pros

It is a great place to start out as a floor nurse. I learned so much there. It was a hectic floor I was on but the nurse manager was supportive and had our backs. Great teamwork as RN's and PCT's as well.

    Cons

It is a large corporation and regimented of course- there are standards to follow but I would definitely work there again in the future.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the staff and tell them!

I have been working at Miami Valley Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I work 3 days a week for full time. I work with great people. I love my job. Teamwork is great.

    Cons

The benefits are horrible. I feel like I am getting no where with my pay. I dislike that it is impossible to achieve outstanding without breaking a leg. Maternity leave is only 9.5 weeks and then you have to take the rest off unpaid because they only let you save 256 hours of TOP.

    Advice to Management

Obtain better insurance options. Consider hard working RNs and reward their commitment. I have seen so many people come and go from Premier. They have been rewarded for coming back...but where is the reward for those RNs that stay loyal to Premier/Miami Valley? It makes me want to leave and come back so the opportunity for reward could be there for me, too. I have been with premier for 6 years. All that has happened is TOP time has been decreased so I cannot even take a full maternity leave (with my own hours that I have to save up to spend), insurance rates have gone way up (and UHC battle has made matters worse for everyone!), and my pay reflects that of every RN (whether good or bad) so I feel like why break my leg when I can never achieve anything other than avarage without doing so. I consider myself a very hard working RN and give 110% when I am at work to advocate for my patients and provided the highest quality of care to contribute for a good name for Miami Valley Hospital. I see other people leave and then come back and get rewarded several thousands of dollars but all I get for staying loyal to Premier is my time off pay taken away, an average pay raise, and no perks for staying a loyal employee. Over and over again Premier preaches patient satifaction but never do they care about employee satisfaction. Overall, I love the department I am in and the people I work with but satisfaction can be greatly approved my many of my fellow RNs by providing a reward to stay loyal to premier and making a reward that is achievable for being a great RN instead of always being put in the same category with the RNs that just do the bare minimum.

I worked at Miami Valley Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

MVH was a great place to work 12 years ago. We received performance bonuses, cost of living raises and Christmas parties with great food catered in for all shifts. There were more seasoned nurses than new nurses so the new nurses received a lot of support and valuable training experience. The hospital is still a great place for new nurses to gain experience.

    Cons

Changes in leadership changed the hospital culture. Leadership did not want to hear about any problems; they only wanted positive feedback. You were labeled a troublemaker if you expressed concerns for patient safety due to patient to nurse ratios. A lot of nurses quit, so most of the units had more new and inexperienced nurses than seasoned nurses which was scary for the new nurses and many became overwhelmed and left. Younger, nurses that told executive leadership were promoted to upper management over seasoned nurses that had put their time in and had the experience to support their decisions. Middle and upper management lost the respect of their floor nurses because most had very little floor experience to guide their decisions and only did what they were told by executives. The last Christmas I was there, the employees had cafeteria food in the new South Tower on a floor that was still under construction.

    Advice to Management

Promote seasoned nurses to management positions that advocate for the patients and the nurses instead of younger less experienced nurses that tell executives what they want to hear.
