I worked at Michael Garron Hospital as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

For professional with a Lean Six Sigma background the Improvement and Innovation Office has a family-minded relation. The recruitment process is 3 phases: first interview with HR and hiring managers; second interview with hiring managers for a technical test on value stream mapping and the last interview is a tour of the hospital to meet team members. Great hiring managers. The key to succeed is to be authentic and very simple not boasting in achievements but to be authentic. The working relation is great! Lot of room to be in charge of your projects and to make significant progress. No micromanaging! Your options are valued and tested! Most importantly, you receive credits for your work! Since it’s a small team you will do work that matters and impact thousand of patients every day!

    Cons

Little room for growth! At the end of your internship you might find it difficult to guarantee a job regardless of your accomplishments.

    Advice to Management

Keep up with the good work and make room for growth!

I have been working at Michael Garron Hospital full-time

    Pros

    Good compensation and benefits
    Good work life balance
    Has a gym

    Cons

Management needs to be more transparent.
Not enough varied work. Bored and under utilized almost every days and management seems perfectly OK with this. Typical public sector. Dread going in most day. Depressing outdated buildings. Horrible food choices-nothing healthy. Don't like the new logo - amateurish. Hospitals should not be named after people-no matter how much $$$ is donated- its desperate and provides absolutely no connection to the community and people it serves.

    Advice to Management

Seek to better leverage the contribution of under utilized staff.
Don't ignore the people you have. There is potential for greatness if given the chance. Don't let staff languish. Horrible for self esteem and confidence. Improve food options-healthy food = healthy minds.
