I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Honestly, I love working at Michaels. I did a lot of growing in this place and its a difficult place to leave after forming so many bonds. The employee discount is 30% and its wonderful.

    Cons

depending on the store you could have a horrible manager. And depending on how good you are at your job depends on how many hours you get. There also isn't a lot of motivation from corporate either to keep employees around. The raises are always meager and there's no long term benefits. And at least at my store I always found myself doing other peoples jobs and not my own.

    Advice to Management

Give the stores more hours. There's no way we can get all the things done that you ask of us

I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time

    Pros

Atmosphere is fun. Good people. Low stress.

    Cons

The pay is horrible. Granted you aren't doing much that requires skill but it's not worth working there in a part-time capacity.

I worked at Michaels Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

30% discount and I had great coworkers.

    Cons

Hours change often and with barely any notice. Can get hectic at times and you'll often be doing something other than replenishment in my case.

    Advice to Management

Stay organized and communicate often with your employees.

I have been working at Michaels Stores full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere to work in with great people. Friendly work environment.

    Cons

The communication could be better. The Managers don't seem to talk to each other as well as they could. The training is practically non-existent which means you have employees who have worked at the store forever picking up the slack for all the newbies who were never taught the right way to complete their tasks.

    Advice to Management

Work on training your employees the right way right from the start. Show that you care about the store enough to follow corporate directions and the new employees will care too.

I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Mainly a part time job company.

    Cons

Every store is slightly different in operations. Depending on level of store is level of offer of pay. A lot of young cashiers and floor representatives. Hard to get good raises.

    Advice to Management

Open lines of communication and training for all

I worked at Michaels Stores full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers (I got lucky with this)
    Long time clients
The actual hands on work can be enlightening.

    Cons

The pay for what you do is incredibly poor. Well below framing industry levels if you do it anywhere else.
They expect everything to be done in 30 minute blocks. This is simply impossible.
Hours will be cut and then you'll get harped at for not being to get things done.
The sheer amount of tasking required to get through a day at a higher level frame shop is ridiculous.

    Advice to Management

You have so much work to do at the levels above general managers. You're completely out of touch with what it takes to retain talent and actually provide pay to keep at a level with which they can survive. I rode the bus for five years to get to work, but I worked 35-40 hours a week. Learning to frame is expensive, and you people don't seem to understand that.
