I have been working at Michaels Stores full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great Bonus Program (for SM and above only.)

    Cons

    ZERO WORK/LIFE BALANCE!!!
Bonus us great, but Michaels will almost kill you to earn it. Minimum 12 hour days are normal. During Peak season, don't plan to see your family family. You are made to feel guilty if you need to take a sick day! There is no support from upper management. Corporate visits are painful ans demeaning! 10 different conference calls every week, if you're off, you take it from home!

    Advice to Management

SMs are very invested in the company. Show some respect for what we do!!! It's hard and exhaustiing. Support us versus telling us we are not running our stores correctly if the paint is NOT ALL LINED UP!!! Every DM visit should not leave us feeling lime crap when they leave. You can change and should the culture and the expectations to ensure we WANT TO work for Michaels instead of staying to make the bonus only!

    Pros

Friendly customers, good coworkers, decent hourly wage, management has favorites

    Cons

Not a lot of hours, management has unrealistic goals.Feel like my manager doesn't like me. I do everything I need to do and fix the mistakes I'm told and still get reprimanded. Got thrown on a register after 10 minutes of training, forced to pressure rewards program on customers

    Advice to Management

Set proper training and realistic goals, communicate with employees in a clear, professional manner

    Pros

Love helping customers with their projects and management can be good...employee discounts are great if you are into crafts and hobbies

Pay is very poor compared to other retail..holidays are a zoo and understaffed for just about every task

    Advice to Management

Increase pay to compete with competitors to keep quality employees...and stop hiring warm bodies at cheap pay..they make more work for managers and peers

I have been working at Michaels Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of walking and physical labor resulted in steady weight loss.

    Cons

Often needed to stay after scheduled shift to finish jobs.
Lack of consistent supplies for building fixtures.

    Advice to Management

Have a proper online training class for new employees before they have to work a full day in the warehouse. New employees struggled constantly with some of the most basic tasks because of a lack of training, communication, and trust. Some employees left after a few days because of a fear of the workload and a lack of confidence.
