I have been working at Michigan Medicine full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

nurse to patient ratio is 4 to 1
    flexible scheduling
    education reimbursement (percentage)
    401 K plan
    teaching hospital
Best Hospital in Michigan (but not without its flaws)

    Cons

    1. Working without a union contract (at the moment)
    2. The business is trying to take away some of the benefits that currently keep employees working there.
    3. You are lucky if you can "manage" to work in a lunch break in a 12 hour day.
I would recommend working here, however, working as a nurse for almost 20 years, I have seen the work environment go downhill since the increase in charting, charting, charting and increase in cell phone usage by staff.

    Advice to Management

    1. Nursing staff "need" a lunch break, and something must be done! (Like You, the clerks and the nurse aids get actual lunch breaks). Otherwise your nursing staff is going to completely burn out.
    2. Get out on the floor and get in touch with your staff, see what's really going on out there on the floor.
    3. Have some evening to night supervision, staff are on their cell phones too much.
    4. Charge nurses play favorites with their buddies when it comes to assignments. Not fair, because they wouldn't want to be treated the way they treat others (at times).

It's a great place to work! Everyone is very dedicated to their work and also has a lot of experience to help. Also very easy to be published!

    Cons

sometimes hard to manage with school work load, but they're pretty flexible

I have been working at Michigan Medicine full-time

    Pros

good benefits (especially retirement and vacation)

    Cons

Lots of red tape and bureaucracy.
There seem to be a lot of folks who do the bare minimum around here, especially those close to retirement. There's a little too much job security around here.

    Advice to Management

We need better talent management, development, and honest/candid conversations with employees about expectations and performance. There are a lot of mediocre (or worse) performers in the organization.

I worked at Michigan Medicine full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Very good health care benefits.

    Cons

Everyone would talk behind others' backs and make fun of people on a regular basis. It was like high school all over again.

    Advice to Management

Train your assistant managers better. I suffered financially from a technicality by one of your assistants.
