I have been working at Michigan State University Federal Credit Union full-time for more than a year

    Pros

People want to learn and grow and work together. There are no lead anchors that hate being here. Very positive environment. Easy to talk to management including C levels. Great benefits and fair compensation. Very protective and supportive of employees.

    Cons

Not the place for folks who don't thrive on smiling and being kind and gentle. No work from home for IT dept.

    Advice to Management

Keep up on the culture and continue the momentum toward improved processes.

I have been working at Michigan State University Federal Credit Union full-time

    Pros

Great benefits Good culture Executive Management seem to care about most employees Rapidly growing Community Involvement

    Cons

Micro-management Hire from outside, listen to new ideas, the green way isn’t the only way to do business. Yes people are groomed for higher positions versus those that are more qualified or have higher potential.

    Advice to Management

focus on the mission. Too often, mid level management think micro-management is the way to manage people. If you focus on the mission of the organization, try to support your staff and develop them instead of the only feedback being what you do wrong and that I need to pay even more attention to you. People don’t quit the company, they quit their managers.

I have been working at Michigan State University Federal Credit Union full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great benefits Always giving back to community Mostly great coworkers

    Cons

Pay is lower than market average in the area. Favoritism is shown towards certain teams and employees. Certain teams/employees are given more interesting work while the others are given whatever is left. This tends to hamper career growth. Some of the employees also show a bit of elitism and it’s either their way or no way.

    Advice to Management

Pay people their fair market value. Try and spread the interesting work to everyone.

I worked at Michigan State University Federal Credit Union full-time

    Pros

Overall a good environment to work in. The benefits are great, and if you have a family to insure, there's no comparison with other companies. Expectations are consistent, the open-door policy makes things feel more fair than most places, lots of availability for training. This is more "traditional" work environment that values a college degree and climbing your way up from the bottom, and rewards those who stick... around longer (particular in terms of the 401K match).

    Cons

Can be catty/political as people stretch for the higher-paying positions. If you're trying to climb the ladder without a degree, expect a much slower climb than your collegiate counterparts.

    Advice to Management

MSUFCU has sought to evolve with the times and so far done a good job - don't stop now!
