I have been working at Michigan State University full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great benefits for employees, campus commitment to diversity and growth.

    Cons

Lansing: a nice and affordable community that sometimes feels a bit lackluster. The administration is sometimes disorganized, but mistakes, missing reimbursements, etc. usually get taken care of *eventually* (=no better or worse than your average big university).

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Michigan State University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The supercomputing center is good and holds courses periodically to teach computing, visualization, using the computing resources well, etc. Postdoc association holds socials and annual travel award cycle. Sometimes grant writing workshops are offered as well.

    Cons

Life in East Lansing can be dull. Nearest metro is Detroit, although Lansing has an airport as well. I work in a nice lab and enjoy my work but I would have liked to see more professional development workshops offered to young scientists. These programs are largely on paper.

I have been working at Michigan State University

    Pros

    - Cheap to live with familly

    Cons

    - Little professional support, - no salary rise for 3 years - Need to pay for everything at MSU (printing, parking, books request) - MSU uses more contractors for the cost of research lab - in my orevuous work all was covered by Univeristy (certifications, tests, core labs) here need rto pay for all. - Bad library collections - Too big univeristy need car but parking is limited and expensive - people are rude at Michigan
