I worked at Micro Focus full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Wide range of software offerings, from development to infrastructure, provide a comprehensive solution to customers.

    Cons

Several large acquisitions have been difficult to integrate into the organization. The result, recently, was a corporate -wide RIF. I was caught in this.

I have been working at Micro Focus full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great software solutions, acquired HPE Security Software division and has really helped offer a complete solution to organizations Cybersecurity, Digital Transformation and Cloud initiatives.

    Cons

Past customer Audits that were performed in the past has really been hard to overcome, being a new sales person trying to build a positive business relationship with customers that haven't seen a Micro Focus AE for over 2 years. There is a lot of relationships that have been damaged from the past and it's challenged to build them back!

    Advice to Management

Understand that Micro Focus has a perception problem in the industry and on "the steet". Work with PR and Marketing to fix this. Long sales cycles.

I have been working at Micro Focus full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great People for now. Top talent is leaving by the day. Great Products customers want and are eager to buy.

    Cons

Terrible benefits that are very expensive. Sick leave and child leave are terrible. Terrible leadership. Zero consistency - things change with the wind. Zero company culture. No work from home options.

    Advice to Management

Quickly understand your company is only as good as the talent within it. The number will be even more unattainable if there are no employees left to hit it

I have been working at Micro Focus full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The Microfocus portfolio includes several market leading solutions. With that in mind, you are hard pressed to find customers who do not own something in the Microfocus stack. Many of these customers will need to buy additional software license capacity or are open to migrating to a SaaS model which opens up new saeles opportunities. For FY18, salespeople are quota'd/compensated on 1 metric. This adds a lot of... flexibility on how salespeople can reach their target/quota. Salaries seem to be within the market expectations. Nice bonuses and incentives for quarterly performance. Presidents Club is achievable. Decent healthcare benefits. 401k and stock purchase are available. Some really smart people work in Product Management and they are building some really cool future technologies.

    Cons

People are treated like numbers. The company "culture" is virtually non-existent. Salespeople are forced to commit deals regardless of whether or not they are ready to be committed and when they don't come in, salespeople are berated as to why they could not bring in a committed deal. Leadership is way over-promising and refuses to let the forecast/pipeline dictate what a realistic expectation should be. This... leads to multiple missed quarters, layoffs, operational expense reductions, etc. The company operates on a margin model. While they have some very cool new technology they are trying to introduce, they have no good ways to migrate from the legacy technology to the new platforms. This leads to awkward customer conversations and many times, very long sales cycles. There seems to be no sense of urgency to fix things that are broken on our back-end systems. This is leading to longer sales cycles, missed bookings, poor/inaccurate quotes, etc.

    Advice to Management

Reset expectations internally and externally. Don't forecast revenues that are not in pipeline and if you do, be conservative due to the lengthy sales cycles and internal issues that are currently crippling the sales teams. Revisit the SaaS software models. It is very apparent that SaaS doesn't have a bright future at Microfocus (as opposed to almost every other software company on the planet). You either need... to adapt to a support free world and embrace SaaS or be prepared to lose many customers because your sales teams are not being compensated properly to sell it and you are unwilling to adapt to the new business model. Lastly, treat your sales team like assets. They are your primary connection to your customers. Salesperson churn is a problem that directly impacts the bottom line. Stop treating salespeople like numbers.

I worked at Micro Focus full-time

    Pros

Great technology and technical personnel. Sales Engineers are awesome; very aware and knowledgeable of the products and the technical space. Customers mainly loyal and can't do without the technology to run their enterprise systems on distributed platforms.

    Cons

Sales organization and strategy for the N. American market. Too many executive sales management changes in America over the last few years. They can't seem to get it right - perhaps because they are UK based and lack the understanding of this market, or they lack the patience to let the sales organization over here work out the "kinks" and lack the patience to win the large sales projects (most application... modernization/migration deals are very large, require much time and diligence, and can mean a CIO's job if not executed successfully). Smaller competitors will now begin to expand their presence (via funding from large acquisition) and with the additional resources, will begin to erode Micro Focus reputation and market share unless Micro Focus pays close attention and is consistent in their focus on their customers. Another huge drawback is their license fee pricing, annual license fees (support fees), and upgrade fees when the customer has to expand their footprint. This will further allow competition to make serious inroads.

    Advice to Management

Get some consistency into your marketing and sales organizations. Have some patience with sales leadership and the field sales organization to be in the territory, develop relationships with customers, and experience some success.

    Cons

I applied for a job through Glass door and heard absolutely nothing from Micro Focus. I consider that a significant sign on how Micro Focus lack focus on their employees.

I have been working at Micro Focus full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Senior sales people who are trusted and empowered in most cases. Good management styles in my org and increased investment in employee morale. Some good people left the company but more amazing ones left behind.

    Cons

Still HPE spin-merge pains with systems and comonay trying to figure itself out. Bottom line is important but you can sacrifice company recovery for short time gains.
