    Pros

Great benefits, fantastic environment, always learning new stuff. I always had a tremendous amount of freedom to come up with solutions to a wide range of situations. Mike Saylor was a great visionary, not afraid to try new directions.

    Cons

It was sometimes a bit confusing as to the direction the company was heading. This is sometimes a downside of having a leader like Saylor. The minute management started paying attention to the short term goals of Wall Street, the company changed for the worse.

I have been working at MicroStrategy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunities are there for the taking. Cannot beat the time off accruals. People are still the best part of this company.

    Cons

You will have to prove your worth. Not everyone pulls their own weight. Some risk averse upper management makes some moves and decisions difficult.

    Advice to Management

    Keep working on your people

I have been working at MicroStrategy (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent comp plan and earning potential, phenomenal products, tier one clients who seem to love the products, great SE's to support sales cycles. I was skeptical prior to joining due to some of the noise on this site, but it turns out there is a huge amount of opportunity at MSTR.

    Cons

Interesting culture which has seen some changes at the top of the company. The communication to the field can be improved. No stock options. If I am a top performer I want to share in the company profits, which have been very solid lately.

    Advice to Management

Start the employee stock option program and the employee stock purchase program. Deliver more and better communications out to the field. Start showing appreciation to the field sales staff who are carrying the company on their back.

I have been working at MicroStrategy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Employees are among the smartest, dynamic, and driven you'll find anywhere. They are dedicated, passionate, and team workers. Good flexibility in occasionally working from home when necessary.

    Cons

Supremely dissatisfied employees given the recent turmoil and new CTO. Technology lacks direction, employees feel micro-managed, and formerly highly motivated employees have been reduced to "clocking it in" and just putting in required hours. Executive management seems oblivious (or don't care) that those remaining feel untethered, disrespected, and unmotivated. Some free drinks and lunch really don't disguise the greater problem here.

    Advice to Management

You are losing an incredible amount of intelligence each and every day. Please open your eyes and stop this sinking ship. Sure, you have the "transparency" you have so touted, but at what cost???

    Pros

Some very talented people work at Microstrategy that are willing to work very long hours to meet unreasonable deadlines.

    Cons

The executive team surrounding Saylor are "yes" men, afraid to question his unreasonable demands or have a reasonable discussion on any topic. No one is empowered to make any decisions. No training or advancement for employees. Large scale layoffs at Saylor's whim. No long or short term stategy. Most key people have left the company in the last year.

    Advice to Management

Put in an executive management team to run the company

    I worked at MicroStrategy full-time

    Pros

none anymore. used to be a great company.

    Cons

they have lost about 1000 employees over the past 9 months, the majority of which left on their own because of how bad the environment has become.

    Advice to Management

the only thing that will save the company is getting rid of the CEO (rumor is, he's getting ready to sell the company, so perhaps this will happen)

    Pros

    -Great gym
    -Used to have great software
-Used to have a real work hard, play hard mentality
    -Good benefits

    Cons

    Lengthy list here:
-Arrogance in unparalleled. Starts with CEO, who feels everyone is stupid by comparison to him and has no respect for anyone, unless your name is Zuckerberg or Gates (ie. people whose IQ compare to his). This rolls downhill to this upper management, who are almost as blinded by arrogance as he is. Very skilled and experienced people are quitting left and right and the management acts like the company and software are just fine.
-Software, which was once cutting edge, has been passed by competitors.
-Zero communication from management on company direction and objectives.
-Zero input allowed from anyone on improvements that can be made.
-Company did very well for years until CEO decided to become more hands on in the business. While a brilliant person, his lack of management skills or feeling that human beings are necessary for success in a business are crippling the company.

    Advice to Management

Pointless to put anything in here. They don't care what any commoner thinks.

I have been working at MicroStrategy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The work is very easy to do and the employees are friendly.

    Cons

The upper management was told to post positive reviews on Glassdoor to try and fix the negative perception of this company. This type of problem solving is exactly why this company is not somewhere I would recommend working. Instead of directly addressing the problem, the upper management would rather try and hide this problem from the public.

The negative perception of this company originates from upper management instituting multiple re-organization of entire departments along with numerous layoffs. The middle managers who are tasked with implementing the re-organization typically are not on-board or told such little information that its easy to see why they fail. The upper managers do not provide enough inofmration down to the lowest levels which leads to dis-trust and lack of confidence in the direction they are taking.

    Advice to Management

Start with a solid plan and then follow through by implementing this plan. Do not make promises you cannot keep. Keep an open dialogue with the lower level employees.

    I worked at MicroStrategy full-time

    Pros

Had the opportunity to work with top talent. There was a great work environment before the lay-offs and mass attrition.

    Cons

    - CEO is a micromanager
    - It's a tech company run by lawyers
    - Employees have recently been consistently treated poorly
    - Work environment has completely changed: everyone is expecting everyone else to quit any day
    - The low staff numbers due to lay-offs and attrition highlight the poor vision and execution of management, as the software across products has been left is such poor state, with no one left to help fix

    Advice to Management

High time to change CEO and President, at least.

great people to work with; ability to work out at the employee gym and take classes during the day; close to the mall

    Cons

there are no opportunities for growth or promotions. layoffs have impacted staff morale. executive management provides little to no direction of the future for the company.
