I have been working at Microchip Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Work-life balance: most employees come in at 8:30am and leave at 5:30pm. I was used to working until 7pm and some weekends at a close competitor. If you never want to take your notebook home, this may be the place for you. However, it will cost you; this attracts less motivated which I did not find out until I joined.
    - Stock appreciation has been better than average. However stock distribution is conservative.

    Cons

    - Compared to their direct competitors (such as TI and ADI), *Meritocracy at Microchip Prevails*. Managers riding the stock are often not serious about doing extra work and seeing the company succeed. Few goals. This is frustrating for motivated employees.
    - Salary very low for industry. I cannot overstate that. Other semiconductor companies often have 50% higher base compensation. This is ironic considering the CEO is one of the highest paid in the semiconductor industry. From published data easily found on the internet.: "As CEO, President and Chairman of the Board, Director at MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC, Steve Sanghi made $10,760,942 in 2016". I believe good CEOs should be paid well, but is he worth $30,000 EVERY DAY. (do the math).

note: after joining, employees are encouraged to write a (good) review on Glassdoor. This is not appropriate. I choose to write my own, from my home PC, so others could benefit from an unbiased review.

    Advice to Management

    - CEO should be reminded of how his excessive compensation is perceived.
    - Work-life balance is heavily promoted but comes at a cost. When the pendulum swings too far, ambitious and motivated engineers are harder to attract and retain.

I have been working at Microchip Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work 12 hour shifts, so get 3 and 4 day weekends. Benefits and culture are improving sense Microchip took over the Atmel Site.

    Cons

Have to be hired through a temp agency. Can take over a year to be hired on by Microchip from the temp agency. Local Management (mostly the direct supervisor level) have an attitude that you can be easily replaced, so they don't have much compassion for people.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your employees like numbers.

    Pros

Usual work schedule is 3 days on and 4 days off, then alternates with 4 days on and 3 days off. Give plenty of time outside work to do other things.

    Cons

Working in a bunny suit gets hot but you do get used to after a while.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees complaints with an open mind; this will help keep them happy and avoid unnecessary turnover.

I have been working at Microchip Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Long Weekends, no question about it. That's what makes it worthwhile working at Microchip. We work 12 hour days each. One week it'll be 3 days on and 4 days off. The next week will be 4 days on and 3 days off. Plus, although many do not take advantage of it, MCHP does reimburse for tuition costs for those who want to pursue college education. It doesn't have to be specifically related to the wafer industry, it can be Business or many other areas as well.

    Cons

Wearing a bunny suit all day long can get hot and stuffy, but you do get used to it after working there a while.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the opinions and concerns of the employees, especially those who have shown their loyalty over many years. Take them seriously and do your best to address those concerns in your regular manager meetings.

I have been working at Microchip Technology (More than a year)

    Pros

Stability! I don't know that they ever have layoffs
    Debt-free! They aren't going anywhere.
Lots of perks! Profit-sharing, quarterly bonuses, 401k, encouragement to move up in company, free on-site Physician Assistant, AMAZING health insurance,

    Cons

Used to pay double time and triple time.
    Bonuses have shrunk over years
    Employee satisfaction has steadily declined
    No raises for 5+ years
    401k match is nearly non-existent

    Advice to Management

Don't keep telling manufacturing what the problem is. They KNOW what the problems are. Don't fret when they can't solve the problem. They're your problems to solve. Solve them.

I have been working at Microchip Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits, tuition reimbursement

    Cons

Microchip has changed how they evaluate their employees and with little to no money in the department budgets, you can go years without any kind of salary increase. But you might get a "discretionary bonus" if your lucky. I am individual contributor (not production); My reviews are great year after year, but no promotion even after 8 years in the same department. New people are coming in making what I make, or close to it. Sometimes I wonder if I'm wasting my time with a company that does not value me.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees well, if not they will find somewhere else to work.
