I have been working at Microchip Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work 12 hour shifts, so get 3 and 4 day weekends. Benefits and culture are improving sense Microchip took over the Atmel Site.

    Cons

Have to be hired through a temp agency. Can take over a year to be hired on by Microchip from the temp agency. Local Management (mostly the direct supervisor level) have an attitude that you can be easily replaced, so they don't have much compassion for people.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your employees like numbers.

I have been working at Microchip Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Work-life balance: most employees come in at 8:30am and leave at 5:30pm. I was used to working until 7pm and some weekends at a close competitor. If you never want to take your notebook home, this may be the place for you. However, it will cost you; this attracts less motivated which I did not find out until I joined.
    - Stock appreciation has been better than average. However stock distribution is conservative.

    Cons

    - Compared to their direct competitors (such as TI and ADI), *Meritocracy at Microchip Prevails*. Managers riding the stock are often not serious about doing extra work and seeing the company succeed. Few goals. This is frustrating for motivated employees.
    - Salary very low for industry. I cannot overstate that. Other semiconductor companies often have 50% higher base compensation. This is ironic considering the CEO is one of the highest paid in the semiconductor industry. From published data easily found on the internet.: "As CEO, President and Chairman of the Board, Director at MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC, Steve Sanghi made $10,760,942 in 2016". I believe good CEOs should be paid well, but is he worth $30,000 EVERY DAY. (do the math).

note: after joining, employees are encouraged to write a (good) review on Glassdoor. This is not appropriate. I choose to write my own, from my home PC, so others could benefit from an unbiased review.

    Advice to Management

    - CEO should be reminded of how his excessive compensation is perceived.
    - Work-life balance is heavily promoted but comes at a cost. When the pendulum swings too far, ambitious and motivated engineers are harder to attract and retain.

Culture of the company is great! Communication is clear at all levels!

Benefits are good but can be improved!

I have been working at Microchip Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable company, very difficult to be fired so job stability as well. Decent benefits but nothing special.

    Cons

Low base pay, company makes it seem like you are getting great pay by giving you stock grants, but they are always vested in 4 years, so you will always lose 4 years worth of stock grants when you leave (even in retirement).

Very lean culture when it comes to everything. Makes some of the equipment old and run down. Hard to get the things you need at times.

    Advice to Management

Find a better balance between spend and stability. The company is always profitable, is there a way to bring that down just a little and provide better equipment or pay?

I have been working at Microchip Technology full-time

    Pros

Decent insurance (was better when it was Atmel though), and vacation time is pretty good as well. The work schedule is consistent, you always work the same days and have 3-4 days off a week (12-hour shifts). Overtime is often available, if you need extra money. Pretty accommodating for people who want to attend classes during work hours, even providing tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Have only received two 2% raises the entire time I've been here (going on 8 years). Management doesn't treat us as if we are people sometimes, only as if we are there to push out more and more work with less people.

    Advice to Management

Learn to promote people to management positions that show more interest in their people and their success, and also show more appreciation for the work that is done.
