I have been working at Micron Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There is a fairly good culture for continual improvement. Leadership is usually looking for new ideas to improve and receptive to feedback. The company cares about their people. Most promotions are from within.

    Cons

Entry level positions are often on night shift. It can take a few years to earn seniority for the schedule of your choice.

    Advice to Management

    Keep cutting the red tape.

I have been working at Micron Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of time off compared with other companies, though sick time and personal time are a single pool.
Family oriented culture, including flexible work schedules for salaried employees.

    Cons

Not allowed to telecommute except with specific permission from management for each instance.
Track to management and other advancement is not well defined, more of a "Good Ol' Boy" network.

    Advice to Management

Make path for advancement more clear. It will help with retention.

I have been working at Micron Technology (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    People, facilities, equipment, pay, location

    Cons

Management indecisiveness. Constantly changing direction. Commitment to bringing a product to market vs. buying technology or product. does not appear that Mr. Durcan has control of much that goes on under his watch.

    Advice to Management

Let the people you have hired in the trenches do their job. In house development has its rewards for the long term if management has the fortitude to stay the course.

I have been working at Micron Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Modern equipment. Most coworkers are highly intelligent and skilled.

    Cons

Frequent layoffs, raises frozen for years, bonus canceled frequently, health insurance more expansive than ever if you have a family. Entrenched management not open to new ideas. Least fun job I have ever worked at. As an example no one would even think of dressing up for Halloween.

    Advice to Management

Senior management should review the performance of mid level managers. Lower level employees are exhaustively reviewed but maybe you should think about reviewing managers performance and having their reports review them as well. Managers are vengeful for negative comments in the employee review/suggestions surveys.

I worked at Micron Technology full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Best place for my skills

    Cons

Wrong personnel put into management positions. Position was terminated because it looked good on paper for cutting purposes to corporate, not for need purposes. It left a big hole where, now, contracts are paid out with big money to provide the same services that I provided, which fall short. Now, no longer personalized to Micron's needs. That is a scam and a huge lie when Micron is claiming down-sizing. It now takes two companies to do my job. I had done an incredible amount of good for MTV, but, head cutters are so much smarter that they shot themselves in the foot. It is like bringing the shuttle down (remember Christie McAuliffe). That was a management decision.

    Advice to Management

Always research who is working under you. Don't just assume that when you hired them by someone else's advice. Study their history carefully. Don't do generalized reviews on their performances. Every review needs a peer to weigh in on their performance, not just mangers making sweeping statements like "everybody gets a 2 this time and only the very elite will barely get a 3 and forget a 4, nobody deserves a 4". This is how the good employees at MTV have been scammed in the last 12 years. Don't send Lead engineers to do reviews. They are not trained.

I have been working at Micron Technology full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great Operators, Techs, Engineers, and Supervisors.

Education assistance; however, it needs to support department (my bosses) goals or else classes will be denied.

    Cons

Expected to work 55+ hours week or else you will be up for layoffs. I recommend that you be the top in your group and you will be fine.

    Politics are really bad...

Restrooms are messy and stalls always full, you might need to wait or walk 15 minutes until you find a restroom stall that is not occupied. There is blood on the stall walls frequently that does not get cleaned which can stay there for months. Typically on the back doors of the stalls...

    Advice to Management

Change, everyone changes except the management and they never get laid-off ever under no circumstances.

Cost cutting has gone too far to the point where you cannot even expand the bathrooms or pay someone to clean them properly.

Being asked to manipulate data to support something my boss told higher management about is getting old...

    Quickly update for immigration
