    Micron Technology Response

    People and Culture

Thank you for sharing your feedback. It’s Micron’s policy that all team members be treated with respect, regardless of their diversity dimension. We also conduct an annual pay analysis study to ensure we are paying our people fairly. Recently, we have implemented Inclusion Advocates into the performance management process to help mitigate the opportunity for biases which can affect annual increases and promotion decisions. In addition, there are performance and rewards guidelines for all Leaders at Micron to follow, which ensure that team members are rewarded based on their contributions. If you feel that you are being treated unfairly, we strongly encourage you to reach out to your Leader, the People Organization (HR), or Micron’s Ethics Hotline (https://www.micron.com/about/our-commitment/operating-thoughtfully/compliance-and-ethics).

Micron is a company struggling to keep up.

Oct 15, 2012 - Engineering Manager in Boise, ID
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - Pay is competitive (especially for those living in Boise where the cost of living is lower). - Vacation time is competitive. - Some (a minority) of the Sr leaders are very strong and are working throughout their leadership team to drive an effort to enable Micron to be successful in the future. - Work/life balance is 'hit or miss' - some groups @ 5pm the office is empty. Others you can see full till 7pm.

    Cons

    - Majority of Sr leaders are still too connected with Micron's past DRAM (commodity) mindset and don't have what it takes to move the company forward as a leader with a broader memory portfolio. There's a wide gap between the Executive team (setting direction/strategy) and lower level management/employees (who want to help move the company forward). Middle managers are not empowered or lack the experience to know how to make changes. All they know is DRAM (commodity) and were promoted based on this. As a result you get an "inbred" mentality with little room for change. - When working in Boise, there are no other Semiconductor employment options, and Micron treats you accordingly. They have very few competitive employee retention policies and HR is almost non-existent. Some examples: - Managers preventing employees from moving to other "better" job openings within Micron for 3 months to 6 months, or even outright refusal. (if this was a policy in the bay area all "capable" people would leave the company to go somewhere else rather than being held captive). This is especially hard when you are hired in as a masters/PhD into an "entry level" position and find an opportunity that will allow you to grow, but cannot move and may lose the position. - No process for "dismissing" employees. A manager can decide they want you out without any documentation/justification. This leads to "personal vendettas" being acted on which creates an environment of fear for those left behind. One of the other reviewers on this site described the environment as "draconian"...very fitting. - The company is losing money which reinforces the "entrenchment" mindset I described above (going back to the "commodity" world). It's not clear they will ever transform themselves into more than what they were.

    Good Company to work with!

Mar 26, 2017 - Process Integration Engineer in Singapore
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Attitude and culture is god on a average basis. Overtime pay is good and a good company to start with especially for fresh graduates. They let you experiment as you like and give you complete independence to try out new ideas. They have excellent resources for anyone to explore.

    Cons

Sometimes gets crazily stressful and pressurizing. Doesn't really appreciate or support if you are weak in any of the areas. Growth is stagnant and not everybody gets to know your accomplishments.

    Good for fresh grad

Aug 23, 2021 - Manufacturing Engineer in Woodlands New Town,
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Good pay for fresh grad and systemic training provided for new hire. Join micron as first class/scholar fresh grad typically give u very good start(better opportunity given).Fast paced and results driven. Good benefit in semiconductor sector.

    Cons

It is a big turn down in Mfg which career advancement is much slower than other departments. Given good ratings every year but takes at least 2-3 years for promotion. Starting pay is low but increment still same as other higher starting pay graduate although with better performance. Demoralised by the inequal pay raise, the pay shd be on par with other similar work performance engr. Training new hire is a long process and it always very painful to train up a new engineer due to the fast paced, high stress working environment. Generally a good place to start but not a good place to stay long term.

    Great Company but Poor Management

Jul 30, 2016 - Process Engineer in Singapore
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Competitive salary and overtime pay are given at SG location which many employees (especially engineers) routinely abuse the system by staying back to do non-work related issues.

    Cons

Poor company outlook with retrenchment ongoing to save cost. Multiple instances of pay freeze in the last few years. Typical American culture to fire when times are bad and rehire when times are good. Local SG culture is dominated by management who has know each other for many years and promotions are determined by "who's is in the inner circle". Sometime new hires are "earmarked" without them doing anything and as long as they don't do anything wrong, they are on the express track.

    Terrible

Sep 30, 2020 - Equipment Engineer in Manassas, VA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

4.5 Weeks Vacation after 5 years. Semiconductor manufacturing is interesting.

    Cons

Micro Management, Zero Focus, Daily Hustle and Chaos, No Development Plans, Reviews are joke, Zero Leadership only heavy handed management. 60+ hour work weeks if you want to even be considered for promotion. Pay scale 75% of Northern Virginia but Management constantly complains labor cost is very high.

    Contract Employee

Jul 28, 2015 - Performance Analyst, Content Developer in Boise, ID
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Diverse cultural environment, Fast passed, good work life balance, supportive management - for contract work the pay is pretty decent and they function at a high contract employee #

    Cons

They are really only hiring for contractors at this point so the work is not guaranteed as steady - you don't know how long your contract will last

Great Company with a series of learning opportunity

Jun 21, 2020 - Process Engineer in Singapore
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - Progressive learning with a great mentor - Awesome Supervisor, care of my wellbeing - Great collegues, bonded (formed with efforts from everyone) - Multiple opportunity, from overseas learning to multi-fab collaborations - High fresh grad pay with OT pay too (many companies does not have this for engineers)

    Cons

    - Other benefits are lacking, e.g. annual leave/collaboration with other companies to bring in benefits for employees (hardly bother looking through HR sites for employee benefit, there isn't much...) - High workload, I max out my OT pay every month since I join - Work-life balance is hard to achieve especially for new hires. It comes with experience to prioritize your work, so communicates with your management.

‘Memory’ and ‘Chip’: Meet the Syracuse Zoo’s New Elephants. These adorable Asian elephant twins, pictured above with parents Mali and Doc, were recently born at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, New York, near the site of Micron’s future leading-edge memory megafab. The zoo asked the public to name the “miracle twins,” and two Micron-themed names (In Hindi, “Yaad” means “memory” and “Tukada” means “chip”) came out winners.
