I worked at Microsemi full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone is very nice and friendly and willing to help with anything you may need. There is not too much work and there is a good amount of down time but it isn't to bad because you do get to learn a lot about the field. There is also always for in the office which is nice.

    Cons

Everyone is older and you don't work with any other interns so the environment isn't fun for college students.

    Advice to Management

    great job!

I have been working at Microsemi full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Peoples are good. All waiting for the next acquisition to be laid off. This happens to all business units throughout the company.

    Cons

Constantly laying off workers. No respect for employees skill set. No sense of loyalty. Average acquisition last for 3 yr before acquired company is shutdown.

    Advice to Management

    Respect you employees

I worked at Microsemi as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The executives are hard working friendly people, which trickles through the company's culture

    Cons

Training and work load for entry level guy like me was pretty limited

    Advice to Management

Keep it up, but integrating a training system for entry level employees would make things more efficient

I have been working at Microsemi (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company culture is outstanding. From flexible hours/working at home to professional development to working with people who think positively and who are exceedingly helpful and who take extreme pride in their contributions to the company's success. A fun, efficient and collaborative environment. Great benefits, good opportunities for growth

    Cons

downside is that if things go badly and expectations aren’t met, and if the bottom line is negatively impacted, you’re an easier scapegoat

I have been working at Microsemi as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

the company puts a lot of investment into its projects, and that trickles down to the people working on those projects.

    Cons

it can seem like you are of a lower class than that of management, because they treat them much better than regular employees

    Advice to Management

keep an eye on your project managers. they have quite a bit of slack on their ropes, if you dont watch out, people will start to hang themselves at some point

I worked at Microsemi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I spent almost 4.5 years, and there was never a dull day when it came to work. Friendly peers, and a lot of challenging work.

    Cons

What gave in was the fact that the senior management did not appreciate frank inputs and formed perceptions and opinions - and used the same to stall growth and judge.

    Advice to Management

The truth hurts most of times, but if someone can understand the loyalty and sincerity of the person speaking it, they'll appreciate the effort.

    Pros

The only good reason is the location.

    Cons

Where do I start. The culture is pure capitalistic. The Very few in senior management absorb the vast majority of the income. Very few. Senior leadership has a warped reality of the world. They believe they are the ones to secure all compensation. If any crumbles remain you may be lucky to cash in with a few shares. Simply look at the CEO income in their financial filings. Many years ago it was confirmed he was not honest about his education. For the majority of companies out there, that is grounds for dismissal. Not Jimmy P! CEO gets away with everything. Anyone looking to invest in their stock should have their head examined. First class everything for Mr. Jimmy P. But remember, that is your money he is spending when you invest your money or even labor. Company culture is horrible. My stock awards declined as the company made money. Can't say the same for senior Mgmt. Bonus pay outs for the rank and file. Good luck getting full bonus awards and good luck on finding what determines your bonus award. They still have an executive on payroll living abroad and does not work but simply sails his boat everywhere. Your stock dollars at work for his living. Just another example of unethical behavior. I only hope they get audited by some governmental agency and figure out why their profit is in Ireland and their tax base is lower than most business in the US. Take this objective rating and look elsewhere. Go to a company that actually likes their employees and treats them with respect. Clearly Microsemi fails on every level.

    Advice to Management

    What's the point.

I worked at Microsemi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and fair time off policy. Time off during holidays with force company shutdown, which is great if you have the time in your bank balance.

    Cons

Career advancement is based on who you know or who you work for. Increases are based on flat 3%, not based on performance. Layoffs are common and there's a negative Political environment. It's all the executives!

    Advice to Management

    Treat employees with respect.

    Cons

dishonest senior mgmt (good old buys club with major perks that abuse company funds)
no future plans to grow business organically
cut throat layoffs and short fused approaches to everything
    unable to retain any talent

    Advice to Management

you need to re-consider your place at this company and let it go. allow for new talent to drive the place.
