I have been working at Microsemi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Brilliant engineers to learn from. Tons of opportunities/potential in the enterprise storage unit.

    Cons

Upper management discourage growth by dictating outdated tools & processes. Deadlines are prioritized over quality. Behind industry on salary/rewards and benefits.

    Advice to Management

Become less rigid. Allow buisness units to investgate and improve processes by adopting industry leading practices and tools. The "value" metric needs to come more from below than above.

I worked at Microsemi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Did a lot of in house promoting.

    Cons

Did not pay fairly, pay seemed to matter more on who your friend was or of you were a woman. Near the end they started hiring female engineers and paying better.

    Advice to Management

Base your raises and merit reviews on performance not if someone is a friend.

I worked at Microsemi full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and fair time off policy. Time off during holidays with force company shutdown, which is great if you have the time in your bank balance.

    Cons

Career advancement is based on who you know or who you work for. Increases are based on flat 3%, not based on performance. Layoffs are common and there's a negative Political environment. It's all the executives!

    Advice to Management

    Treat employees with respect.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Microsemi full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work is challenging and rarely boring. Engineers are nice to work for and with.

    Cons

Toxic leadership allows toxic employees to infiltrate and make for unhealthy relationships. Long term tolerance of Toxic behaviors and bullying. Read the book: Toxic Workplaces: Managing Toxic Personalities and Their systems of Power, this will explain the atmosphere to expect. Game players are welcome, leadership is gullible. Back stabbing the norm. Many people very, very unhappy there.

    Advice to Management

Read the book: Toxic Workplaces: Managing Toxic Personalities and Their systems of Power, this will explain what needs to change if this is going to be a long term good place to work. Get a no tolerance rule for toxic behaviors. Learn to realize when someone is "playing" you, stabbing their co-workers in the back, they have manipulated you so that they can get by with a lot of bad work ethics. They may seem friendly and funny...but that is their mask...beware.
