    Pros

Great Benefit Package including fitness and vision

    Cons

Positive work environment has disappeared over the last three years -- now working for Microsoft Retail Stores is nothing but hi-pressure sales for any job position that is customer-facing (product advisor, service advisor, manager).

    Advice to Management

Stop beating staff daily with new metrics, new goals, and the need to always do better.

Stop being open on Thanksgiving Day when sales are so slow its depressing to think how everyone could be with their families.

Close the stores in the evenings of July 4th so employees can celebrate this unique holiday with their families and friends. Last July 4th after dark their were no customers.... none..but staff remained in the store while the Store Manager when to a Marlin's game...

    Pros

Great team, great products. Very educationally focused with customers- didn't push too hard. Built strong relationships with customers for repeat business

    Cons

Felt really far removed from Corporate. Sometimes goals seemed unattainable due to resellers. Track to promotion was not clearly defined. After a number of stores were announced the culture decreased

    Advice to Management

Continue to push the products. More marketing materials that specifically state MS Store. Do more within local communities.

    Pros

Company offers great Compensation and Benefits as well as travel opportunity.

    Cons

Store manager is left to run amok and treats his staff as if they are unqualified to breath his air. Constantly berated employees in front of coworkers as well as in front of customers. Reported to HR for months and nothing was done to address the issue.

I worked at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Was the best company I've ever worked for until the culture changed. Over the past 24 months, there's been a gradual decrease in values that the company stands behind.
Anywhere else than this market, I'm sure, is still great.
    Still had great benefits.
    Decent pay.

    Cons

Will not do proper HR investigations.
Breaks/meal breaks policies are not adhered to.
High employee turnover due to company culture shifts.
    Not a great work/life balance.
    Little opportunity for career advancement.
For being at the forefront of technology, employee systems (POS, employee machines) are embarrassing.
    No support from upper management.
Supposedly, there is an open door policy.
Quick to judge, no positive intent.

    Advice to Management

Get back to the culture you started with. There is far too much hypocrisy and now feels like a terrible place to work due to current store and market managers' treatment of employees. Reassess the people in place and interview as many team members as you can to get a real temperature check of your stores. I'm not talking about the yearly poll either, audit your management from the viewpoint of PA's and ASM's - you are losing great people left and right due to ignorance and poor judgement.

    Cons

holiday hours are brutal but they will give you overtime expect to work 10-12 hrs a day

I worked at Microsoft full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are great for a retail position!
    - Healthcare/dental
    - Discounts in EPP stores for partners OEMs
    - Relocation bonus
    Certification opportunities
Growing retail organization with lots of potential for single people or those willing to move.
    Growing popular brand

    Cons

Executive leadership tends to make rush decisions resulting in headaches.
Not a lot of forethought for promotions, industry events, important milestones. Always playing catch-up.
Daily operations (for retail) are tedious.
Depending on leadership, the hours are terrible.
Primary focus is sales and number, less on people at the store level.

    Advice to Management

Invest more time in your employees, less on individual sales. Fix the way you document disciplinary actions. Call potential hires back within a reasonable period of time.

    Pros

Amazing benefits, cool technology, generous bonus

    Cons

Unresponsive management, rampant incompetence, non-stop politics, the company treats every utterance and action like it's a lawsuit waiting to happen, force-rank removal system means all teams are constantly in flux which leads to an every-man-for-themselves culture where you will be thrown under the bus.

    Advice to Management

Time to spend more time in the field

    Pros

throwing around lots of money and product to get into retail industry. they have unlimited resources and can afford to make mistakes.

    Cons

new to the retail industry and are copying many other retailers including apple

    Advice to Management

be cautious of who you are hiring from outside. do not hire a manager from outside the company to open a new store. should be a seasoned manager who has been with the company.
