I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Benefits + 401k.
    Great pay and compensation.
Growth mindset, easy to work your way up.
Dominant tech company, not going away soon.
    Innovative and unique company.

    Cons

Lack of structure and direction, things change so much.
Lots of push back from the higher-ups on projects. Generally, there's only a few people making decisions here.

    Advice to Management

We just need better structured guidelines on how things are done, and we need to hold people accountable for their actions.

    Pros

Low pay. Given managers responsibilities regularly.

    Cons

No training and extremely limited direction given to contractor. You must be able to figure it out, hit the ground running and just get it done.

    Pros

The benefits are absolutely incredible and my co-workers were amazing. At first, we were like a big family but management ruined that. Anyways, I had an opportunity to explore new opportunities and gain experience that I'm able to use personally and with other jobs. Microsoft is truly an amazing company and I believe their values are sincere but, of course, there a couple of handful of people who ruin a good thing.

    Cons

Considering I worked for Microsoft and the bit of insight I knew about Microsoft's finances, eventually I began to feel underpaid. Compared to our competition, retail jobs do not pay a lot unless you're in management or working as a teacher. However, they expect you to handle so much crap and juggle multiple duties that other people are being PAID to do. Management at my store was an absolute joke and it's the reason I quit. It was a lot of shady things occurring in our store and favoritism was a huge issue as well. People were not held accountable for their mistakes or lack of work unless management didn't like you. After constantly complaining and filing lawsuits against the store manager, most of the management has been replaced but it personally left a bad taste in my mouth for Microsoft.

    Advice to Management

Not quite sure how much corporate values the retail side of Microsoft, but I would continue to keep a close eye on the stores primarily in Atlanta. I loved my co-workers because, at first, we were like a huge family. We always had respectful and responsible fun until management got in the way and began to handle situations unethically. Allow people who have earned and are capable of managing people become managers. Honestly, are you guys truly evaluating management's skills because I know a lot of former Microsoft employees who have quit simply because they felt unappreciated and under valued. Please don't allow your current wonderful, passionate, and intelligent employees walk away from your company because appointed people in management roles feel intimidated. Therefore, they aren't allowing these people growth opportunities and they feel trapped in their current positions. Microsoft can continue to grow successfully and create fresh innovative products, but you must have the right people. A lot of those "right people" are already working for your company in the retail stores but management isn't giving them the chance to shine.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are fantastic. PTO builds up quickly. Great work like balance.

    Cons

Pay gap between jobs is very high, and getting to the next level isn't easy.

    Advice to Management

Create different positions within retail store. Pay more for better quality employees. You have to spend money to make money. You might as well spend it on the internal client.

I worked at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some good technology, but not as cutting edge as they lead you to believe.

    Cons

Poor management. Convoluted sales commission plan and employee rating plan. Definitely buddies taking care of buddies. Behind the curve in lots of technology, like phones, tablets, etc.

    Advice to Management

    Why? You wouldn't listen...

    Variety of work.
    Pay scale above average.

Great 401K matching - most I've ever seen.

    Cons

Everything going in so many directions, can be hard to stay focused before something changes and you have to adapt.
Big learning curve to get up to speed on company and culture, while managing your job.

    Advice to Management

Scorecards are important, but they aren't everything.

I worked at Microsoft full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced environment, worked with very smart co-workers, challenges never ended, exposed to some of the largest customers in varying industries.

    Cons

Never solved problems for customers, only sold software / services to meet score card or metrics. EPG has lost focus on how to sell in a cloud first, mobile first world. Account teams do not work together and only sell based on what they as individuals need to achieve their bonus.

    Advice to Management

People are leaving for Google, Amazon, Apple and others because internally Microsoft Management (EPG) is too focus on meeting sales goals tied to the year 2000. A major revamp of sales from the top (COO) down will only fix the issue, not padding Enterprise Agreements with outlandish Azure funds that are never used, but reported to Wall Street to meet their expectations...

I have been working at Microsoft part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working in the store is a great opportunity to get familiar with Microsoft technology, develop your soft skills and get exposure to the technology world. Bonuses come easy and theres a lot of room to grow

    Cons

Retail is retail so the cons are all typical retail related cons. Long hours, working on holidays and weekends, cranky customers, etc.
