"The Inside Sales Middle East and Africa team is a microcosm of the ills of the Middle East and Africa"

Former Employee - Former Inside Technical Sales Professional in Dublin, Co. Dublin (Ireland)

I worked at Microsoft full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Microsoft Technology is Microsoft Technology

    Cons

The Inside Sales Middle East and Africa team is led by a bunch of overbearing impulsive and narrow-minded bunch who think they are a cross between Einstein and Mugabe.
The MEA team is dominated (as in 90% of the team )by 1 Nationality despite the region being made up of around 60 nationalities. Inclusion and equal opportunities are not very high on their agenda in that team (didn't I say they are a microcosm of the middle east)
The Inside Sales Technical Sales Unit (STU) is led by people who should not have the word 'technical' anywhere near their title except for 2.

    Advice to Management

Hire some local people and don't just go for the easy option of shipping people in from abroad esp in Sales.
The Attitude of the MEA management team is going to land you in a lawsuit very soon.
Microsoft is a software and technology company, not a call center and that's what its culture should be based on.

I worked at Microsoft full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have got the pleasure to join the Microsoft post-sales team. It has been an amazing experience which made me improve myself and my languages skills in taking part of this international time. It's a great place to start and improve your career.

    Cons

They should give their workers more importance to enable them to have a better lifestyle.

I worked at Microsoft as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Appart from the name of the company on the cv, can't find any.

    Cons

Horrible team, useless management. No training. The worst office i have ever seen. As a contractor you are a second zone citizen with no advantages and a very low salary.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great perks and HR/Occupational Health is top notch.
Brand new purpose built office building.

    Cons

Redmond employees tend to wield the most power irrespective of achievements or ability.
Teams can be relocated from the Dublin office due to larger organisational shuffles.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good working conditions, interesting people and huge scale of customers.

    Cons

Lower salaries when compared with other tech companies of the same dimension. Huge discrepancy regarding payments for the same job in US vs Ireland, while the cost of living is on the same level.

Can't hire good engineers due to low salaries for the super high cost of living.

    Advice to Management

Senior managers are clueless about technical details, a lot of politics going around.
Step up and start adding value to the products by yourself.

    Pros

Open and honest communication. Commitment to diversity. Great fun. Interesting projects. Flexible work from home options. Feels like family. Fantastic career progression.

    Cons

Long hours, lots of travel, US teams can struggle to let EMEA teams have control.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what your doing, fantastic place to work. Always regretted leaving.
