I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

very smart people, great benefits, awesome senior executive strategy and leadership, good compensation packages, prestigious brand

      Cons

Turnover, at least in NYC, is very high: >100% in 3 1/2 years there. Goals frequently unachievable, thus the turnover. Started to goal customer-paid roles with sales quotas. Role switching is strongly encouraged which, while good for the employee rounding out his/her career, it is bad for account coverage consistency.

      Advice to Management

Customers will buy the stuff that is core regardless of who is selling it. But if you want to expand the breadth of your footprint to new, more fringe products, you should have steady coverage of your key accounts. "Trusted Advisor" obviously implies trust, which is earned, not given just because you have a Microsoft business card. Don't take my word for it. Look at HR records for sales roles in the key NYC market...

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Company culture is very supportive and the sales message is that the technology transforms productivity, collaboration and participation. Pretty cool.

      Cons

As with any rewarding role it is equally demanding. There is a lot to keep up with.

      Advice to Management

None, they really try in earnest to give us the tools we need and to make our lives easier as we focus on our goals.

      Cons

      Advice to Management

Bring the AE to a consultative position and align the comp plans to sell solutions

I have been working at Microsoft full-time

      Pros

The name. Only the name. The lie is that you'll get paid a ton of money. The truth is its 100% biased on whether you manager likes you

      Cons

Get rid of your re-branded rankings. The zero rewards is a scarlet letter and unfair. It's a way to give people your manager likes (even if they under-perform) a ton of money and leave you with nothing to force you to quit. There's no way out of it. None. Many of the managers are immoral and protected and they have ALL power in their hands with no accountability for their actions (I've even heard managers joke about it...

      Advice to Management

Seriously look into your 'CVP approval' clause and the morality of your managers. Google their names at the very least instead of just reading a 'no rewards' checkbox - there's a common thread. A lot of the sales managers are corrupt! They support and pay their friends regardless of how great other workers serve the business and make you money. Deep within, this is still Steve Ballmers Microsoft and Worse because its...

      Approves of CEO

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Respectful, intelligent and dedicated employees. As an Executive Assistant, I worked remotely supporting an Executive who traveled non-stop and was paid overtime - earning 33% more annually than my base salary. Excellent benefits and 401k matching including $800 year reimbursement for anything fitness or wellness related.

      Cons

Tons of overtime and 24/7 on-call mentality overall.
