I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Employee empowerment, thrive for excellence and innovation - usually benevolent management - one of the first tech companies to adopt flexi working

    Cons

Having to use and trial exclusively Microsoft tools sometimes was frustrating and counterproductive - the stackranking performance review created useless competition between teams and people that should have been working together - they got rid of it since - a few cases of toxic management, but usually got dealt within reasonable timeframe

    Advice to Management

    Keep transforming !

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

meet and work with incredibly skilled and passionate people technical level is very high and you can learn a lot from your colleagues you discover how to outperform yourself... at levels you couldn't even imagine. many tech and non tech trainings (soft skills) good salary, correct healthcare, company car if applicable to the job

    Cons

The first year at Microsoft is always hard : lots of process and many things to learn. work life balance is supposed to be a priority... but single people have more opportunities to evolve than people with families. many travels middle management is sometimes more focused on its own career than their team member's... the end of year review system

    Advice to Management

HR is too distant from individual contributors. Middle management filters a lot.. you should pay more attention.

During the hiring process ww have no contact with the HR directly (MACH program)

    Cons

a lot of products, offers, Licensing contracts to understand and explain to customers. A lot of information coming every day, every hour .You need to prioritize by yourself.

    StarStarStarStarStar
    • Work/Life Balance
    • Culture & Values

    • Compensation and Benefits
    • Senior Management
Former Contractor - Partner Account Manager in Issy-les-Moulineaux
    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Microsoft for more than a year

    Pros

Fast-pace environment where huge things happen (what other company could have bought Skype or Nokia just like that!). Lots of opportunities. You are invited to change job every 2/3 years. Brilliant people.

    Cons

Extremely political environment, especially in sales department. If you want to succeed, you'll spend more time making your "work" visible than working properly. New job distribution at the beginning of each year. When you know the rules of the game, you can play it. You can be top of the game one day, and totally out of it the next day.
