    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Lots of great resources to leverage, lots of great people to work with. Extremely important projects to work on.

    Cons

Depending on what org you are in it can be extremely political and completely unhealthy - typically their projects are not that important and with a few questions and research its not hard to figure out what to avoid.

    Advice to Management

Great opportunities, great talent. Always challenge great talent and don't accept status quo.

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Lots of resources for the right projects. Can be cutthroat to get funded, but more resources than most companies. Strong push for more collaboration.

    Cons

Still a ways to go on collaboration. When reorgs happen, people still bring along select people from old teams vs trusting new people.

    Advice to Management

Push for better assessment of existing teams when new managers come in.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Be yourself, encouraged to do your best, great opportunities for growth and development, great benefits and a great corporate citizen.

    Cons

Rams inclusiveness down your throat and sets strange diversity goals that are not based on merit.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing and stop trying to atone for Satya's incident comment about women.

I have been working at Microsoft for more than 3 years

    Pros

Working for the “beast” is a little less beastie now because of the option to work from home. Challenging business problems with the need to resolve at a breakneck pace can be stimulating.

    Cons

Don’t let a recruiter or overly optimistic manager fool you into thinking that you’re going to get recognition as a vendor or hired if you desire to be. Restrictions on hiring are top down and autocratic. Managers make empty promises to more work extensions for contractors or tease with the desire of permanent hire whether they know they’re doing it or not. “DO NOT talk in meetings if you’re a vendor...”. Yup, I was...

    Advice to Management

Applicants need to be skilled/certified in at least some of your software to work there. Your policy makers are burdening your company because they make programs without technologists who know how to automate them. If you want to hire people without knowledge of your products, you’re going to have less productive people on the job. Test people, at minimum. It looks super bad when FTEs know nothing about the products....

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

You can engineer anything here, from Xbox games to Surface hardware to Office productivity apps to Windows OS to Azure services, and it's easy to move between these teams. The great work/life balance is made possible by well-honed processes and plenty of support that makes it easy to plan time away and get home in time for dinner with the family. Since Satya took over as CEO, the culture has had a major shift towards...

    Cons

Program Management is different than Product Management at other tech companies, doing a bit more design and a bit less market understanding. Microsoft is starting to shift that role, but it has some growing pains around the relationship between PM and Design, and how the company approaches new investments.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the momentum in culture change and data-driven decision making.

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Working at one of the world's best software company teaches you a lot of valuable experience. Great company, great benefits

    Cons

Salary is not as competitive as some other enterprise business in Seattle area. The worst thing is the middle management. Over the years, they did nothing to improve the middle management and often it is the good employees who get shafted because they are not up there in the corporate ladder. For 3 years straight I was promised management opportunity, and yet, year after year they would come up with all sort of excuses...

    Advice to Management
