I worked at Microsoft full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Amazing. Managers were really great.

    Cons

Some bad stuff. No free food.

    Advice to Management

I mean, put salaries on glassdoors.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    + lots of smart people
+ customer sentiment is now strong
+ CEO is brilliant and builds strong culture
    + very good benefits
    + GREAT technology to sell
+ company is an awesome world citizen; gives billions to the needy which feels really good

    Cons

    - performance model still feels too forced; just do away with forced curves and hold managers more accountable. if they allow low performers to stick around m, remove the manager instead of forcing a curve where it doesn’t apply
    - pay could be a bit higher, especially given company performance over the past several years

    Advice to Management

Stay hungry. Continue to make big investments in cloud, AI, quantum and keep up the incredible work.

I have been working at Microsoft as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company, everyone is really nice & the hours are flexible.

    Cons

You are not an FTE so you don't get any of the perks (you can't go to team bonding events or lunches). If you want to move up, you can't talk to a Microsoft FTE about it, you have to apply through the Microsoft jobs portal (seems backward since you work with these people every day). Managers will just hire from outside not within.

    Advice to Management

Care about your contract employees and hire within your office!

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is average, lots of retreads from other companies and new college hires

    Cons

very political environment, you spend more work internally than in the field trying to defend yourself from others, company uses AI and ML to measure your performance

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I love the benefits here. In addition to the standard dental, health, 401K; also little perks like Stay Fit reimbursements (on gym memberships, workout gear, etc), tuition reimbursement, and even adoption fees. Great CEO, he has completely done an overhaul and started to shift the culture and mission in a huge way.

    Cons

The largest downside is that receiving internal job transfers/promotions is exceedingly more challenging than I would have ever imagined. Also, pay increases are very low each year, and in my role, the bonuses are insignificant.

    Advice to Management

Please try your best to value and invest in current employees, so they don't become jaded. People are the single greatest commodity of an organization and often it feels like we are disposable when we give our all.
