I worked at Microsoft for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great people make working here a huge positive. The focus on utilizing technology for good is also a plus.

    Cons

Middle management focus on raw number metrics and are detached from Satya's messaging which makes working life challenging and confusing at time. Also the yearly structural adjustments cause unwarranted stress

    Advice to Management

Middle management should undergo quality people management training and have the freedom to live up to the Microsoft aspirations of wanting to be the best place to work

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You can advance your career by moving to corporate in Seattle

    Cons

The only way to get ahead in Australia is to leave for the US

    Advice to Management

Australians "are apparently not the US" which is garbage. Management spend too much time trying to do it their own way rather than take the learnings from other subs. There's a reason that it's behind Europe and the US. Start promoting on skillset, not on tenure. It's no longer just a sales world. Compared to Europe or US, it's the old Microsoft. The cultural change being driven by the top is actively avoided down...

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some great talent is still Around and this brings opportunities to learn from it. Benefits used to be great.

    Cons

Toxic and political culture top-down, no empowerment, nepotism and favoritism, turned into a career end for many excellent people over the past 2 years. Push out people with tenure. Bullying and harasment all over the place. Ibm culture brought nothing good. Customers pick and choose competitions more and more

    Advice to Management

Reward by merit. Friends cannot replace true professionals. Get your head out of sand and start listening to customer feedback. Review epg and services management.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Incredibly diverse and supportive of all. Salary and package is competitive and includes great additional benefits for wellness and promotion of healthy lifestyle. Huge opportunities to move up, around and over(seas). Great tech training including US trip each year to mother ship.

    Cons

Customer facing roles have far too much turnover. Customer technical support is atrocious and no one from Services management team appear to care. Too many managers and not enough leaders. Many Managers ineffective, non-responsive and too focused on internal business rather than customer satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

Measure your managers by their work with customers.

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    * Microsoft continues to be a leader, so you're always working with the latest technology & products. * Access to a wide range of technical content and self-learning offerings. * You're working with lots of smart, passionate and enthusiastic people. * Great benefits package - salary is just average market rate, but lots of extras add up and make it very good (stock purchase program, health insurance, mobile phone...

    Cons

    * Work/life balance (or more exactly lack of). Stress is a constant part of the job. Consulting roles are very time-demanding and can involve lots of travel. Sales roles have more time flexibility, but have very challenging quotas to meet. * Internal politics. You get more visibility via networking with the right people than your own work merits. I don't know how bad this is in the Headquarters or other subsidiaries,...

    Advice to Management

    * Pay attention to what employees say on the surveys. * Recognize people on their own merits. * When deciding to move a senior manager to lead a different business line, consider the impact the move will have on the morale of the team. Wouldn't a person within the team be as qualified to be promoted as the new lead instead?

    Pros

Its Microsoft. Pay is OK All the cool Toys

    Cons

Contractors are majority of staff but viewed as second class citizens. People in the office are not friendly. The environment is all about cliques. If you arent in the clique, you dont even rate a greeting. So secretive, often dont even get enough information to do your job properly

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your contractors like children. You hire them to do a job, let them do it
