I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The culture is great here. When you join a team, you really feel at home and get a sense that you can trust your co-workers. There is always room to grow or move within the company.

    Cons

During certain times of the year, it can get stressful, but this is only temporary and doesn't last very long.

    Advice to Management

Keep up what you're doing, its a great place to work.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible, good pay and benefits, accountability to the business, cool products, CEO is trying to change culture to be more inclusive and focus on people.

    Cons

Limited roles in CANADA, managers are hit or miss, increasingly technical focus. Can be a very chauvinistic environment. Lots of internal politics

    Advice to Management

    Train your people managers

I have been working at Microsoft as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing company - I love what I'm doing & look forward to getting up for work every day. Work with amazing people who are brilliant at their work & love what they do. Lots of opportunity both internally & with Microsoft on the resume. Due to being capped at 40 hours per week on contract have awesome work/life balance.

Amazing & inspiring CEO who possesses the kind of values & social consciousness that many other business leaders at other companies should aspire to.

    Cons

Contract position creates uncertainty. Restructuring created a lot of churn & some disunity within teams that have shared sales & marketing headcount. The blue badge (Microsoft full time employees) versus red badge (contract employees) bias is still prevalent amongst some folks.

    Advice to Management

Improve the customer experience - customers complain they have to log into multiple locations with multiple identities to get the information they need. One Microsoft philosophy needs to extend out to the customer.

I have been working at Microsoft part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Great perks, friendly people.

Not a pro, but something to consider for new employees:

    - Expect people to want something from you, pretend that you don't, and you should be fine short-term at this job

    - For long term, really think about what your niche is, and try to brand yourself to fulfill that niche.

    Cons

    - Transparent motives behind what management is saying and what they mean: customer service = need more sales

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great culture, with incentives for non stop learning. Work perks and monetary benefits are so great I am afraid to leave and find that other companies would fail to meet my expectation.

    Cons

You have to work, if you are the kind of person that can talk yourself out of work, forget it!
Another con is location, there are lots of great positions that I could totally land and excel at but because I can't work from Redmond/Bellevue/Seattle I rarely get to even be in the interview loops.
