I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Very positive environment of working to help each other, grow together and build upon other's learnings and experiences. Benefits are good (not as good as they were prior to the Affordable Healthcare Act) but will stand up against other employers. Strong focus on diversity and a healthy work life balance. Also embraces remote employees (in most departments). Not known for large yearly raises.

    Cons

High expectations of what a manageable work load actually is. There is no such thing as a 40 hour week at MSFT. If you want to stay employed and even get ahead, you need to work very hard - doing your day to day job well is not good enough. Company is also slow to move and many times gets in its own way or progress and moving deals forward.

    Advice to Management

Take more risks and invest in your employees. They love working there - love them back with better rewards (compensation), embracing the remote employee and more 'perks'; for example free phones, surfaces, days off, etc.

    Pros

Microsoft India takes great care of employees. I have been worked with Microsoft more then 2 years and it’s a great place to work. 1. Great on-boarding training process and work culture. 2. It may have a top to bottom hierarchy but management is well cultured. 3. Awesome food at the canteen. Plus, free fruits, coffee, tea, soft drinks. 4. Great place to Learn deeply about Microsoft products. 4. Lot of participation for non-work activities.

I have been working at Microsoft for more than a year

    Pros

Salary is relatively higher than other companies

    Cons

Singapore Microsoft office is a miniature of the Singapore society itself where contract staffs are treated like domestic helpers with the Permanent staffs behaving as if they are the high class. Company's slogan of "Diversity and Inclusive" are not quite true! Don't be fooled by the name of the company. The company culture is nothing like what you could imagine. Many permanent staffs are snobbish and self-centered only cares about own work. There is no teamwork. Too many restructuring as and when the headquarters decides. When that happens, you are suddenly cut like a slave. The future is quite unstable.

    Advice to Management

Please do not treat Contract staffs like domestic helpers. If Company truly believes in "Inclusiveness", the benefits and treatments for Contract staffs should be equal to Permanent staffs. Please do not dump Contract staffs.

I have been working at Microsoft for more than a year

    Pros

Salary, opportunities, colleagues. Good workplace for a career start. A lot depending on people you work with, not a lot depend on you. Flexible hours and conditions.

    Cons

Too many complicated processes, most of the times unnecessary. Difficult to maintain work/life balance. While your pay is high, you're often on the clock even at home (email, nighttime phone calls to other locations etc). There's still a sense of intransigence to new ideas. There are many long-timers there. Lots and lots and lots of overtime.

    Advice to Management

It's difficult to give them any advice that they haven't already heard and somewhat half-heartedly responded to. In the tech industry, Microsoft is an old company. They need to inject new, fresh ideas and recognize that "time in Microsoft" is not an adequate measure of the value an employee can bring to the company..
