I worked at Microsoft as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

The people, the flexibility and the food.

    Cons

Interns can end up being used as cheap labor. They promise so much in the interviews and in the induction. For instance the stretch projects were non-existent.

Compensation is very poor. With so many international interns joining there is barely enough to make rent.

The level of work and experience of interns depend largely on the the manager. Some managers give full responsibility and embrace the interns role, while unfortunately most managers just don't care.

The upgrade to a graduate role after is only reserved for a few interns. With about 40 interns 12 or less will get kept on.

Overall it needs to be more structured. The role should be defined for the intern

    Advice to Management

    Structure the internship
