I worked at Microsoft as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Focus on research projects, renowned researchers, well-designed intern programs, many opportunities working with very famous researchers. Researchers can extract papers from your projects even if they are not much successful.

    Cons

Even though you showed good performance, the company does not given any offer. You can only obtain publication, chances to expand your research connections, and some salary (which is slightly better than other companies).

    Advice to Management

Very flexible, free, you may work at home, and you can work in anywhere you want.

I have been working at Microsoft as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay, stability, work/life balance (big corp, not held too accountable for much), Seattle-based, working with some tech legends

    Cons

Lack of culture, feels stale, they're changing things up but there's only a few groups that have a great culture and you have to know what you want beforehand to get yourself there. Little impact, waterfall methods. Median age 40+

I have been working at Microsoft as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

+ Lots of opportunities to participate in big projects
+ Get to work with people around the globe
    + Great pay
+ Unique opportunity to see the hundreds of careers that are out there !

    Cons

    - There is not a well structured plan for interns
    - You need to look for other projects to learn more, as an intern you're underestimated and your tasks will be somewhat limited or "easy"
    - Several managers intervene with your activities and responsibilities which is confusing

    Advice to Management

Define a plan for interns and do not underestimate them !

I worked at Microsoft as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Microsoft is located in Redmond, WA where you can have really nice weather during the summer. There are tons of nice and stimulating people in Microsoft, and tons of projects that are stimulating, challenging, and fun. I liked the food at the food court; there are diversity from pasta and burgers to pad thai and pho. You will absolutely love your experience at Microsoft. Plus, free sodas all the time.

    Cons

There are not so many cons about working at Microsoft as an intern. But it is well known that their management somehow does not always work well; teams could be in a not-so-good relationship with other teams and all.

I worked at Microsoft as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - The company treats it's employees great! Free gym membership, free transit pass, subsidized housing for interns, lots of free swag
    - Just three words: Intern Signature Event. Best night of my entire internship by far. We got to taste all the best foods of Seattle, saw Macklemore and Deadmau5 in concert, got tours of the Boeing factory in Duck Tour Boats, and received a surface pro 2 as an intern gift (before it was even released to the public!!)
    - Lots of events and after-work programs for everyone! I attended "Stay and Draw" events, salsa lessons, etc.
    - The campus is very nice and there's shuttle service to different buildings
    - Ppl don't care which internet browser, phone, or search engine you use (my over-consciousness about the whole thing was really just in my head, more than anything)
    - Upper management is very accessible and willing to talk to interns (I was able to ask the dev manager of my team for 1-on-1 lunch and she was very nice!)
    - Lots of opportunities for career growth
    - Lots of supports from mentors as an intern
    - Lots of fun intern-only events :D

    Cons

    - I was in Office, so the development cycles were really long (although much shorter than what it used to be)
    - The recruiters can be EXTREMELY pushy. They won't take no for an answer, and they don't seem to understand why, as a student, you'd want to experience other companies/industries
    - Sometimes it feels like Microsoft fosters mediocrity
    - Felt like my intern project didn't have much impact

    Advice to Management

Give more relevant intern projects that make an impact
