I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great Pay, opportunities if you are on the right side of key managers

    Cons

political, top down, poor listening systems, if you don't challenge management you can do fine. New culture is creating fear and indecision everywhere, no one wants to take risks

    Advice to Management

Don't take the time to listen to reality, don't use real data for decision making, just think you do

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You get to work on big projects that affect millions of customers. The company is making the right moves to increase its share of the cloud software market. You will not be bored; you can't hide out in any safe teams.

    Cons

If you work on a cloud service, prepare yourself for 24/7 on-call support duties. These were the most stressful and least rewarding parts of my job. After the company got rid of the testers, the devs did not pick up the slack. We're all DevOps now, after all. And we and our families pay the price in 3:00 AM calls, when you can't think straight and the pressure is like none you've ever felt.

    Advice to Management

Bring back the QA roles, even if you don't call them SDETs. We catch far too many problems in production. We create too many alerts that catch problems too late, and then no one reads the thousands of auto-generated E-mails anyway.

    Pros

    Cons

Mediocre mid mgmt at best, Lack vision and strategy

    Advice to Management

Start with holding senior and executive mgmt accountable, most things will fall into place.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. The job comes with good benefits.
    2. Due to being a larger company, there is opportunity to move around laterally to find a position that fits you, but you have to be very proactive about it.
    3. Good work/life balance. Most benefits seem somewhat catered to family people who don't want to work late.

    Cons

    1. It's very difficult to "stand out" and move up in the ranks.
    2. There doesn't seem to be a very good way to advance your career without moving into management.
    3. The job can end up being very political.
    4. It all really depends on your team.

    Advice to Management

There should be more opportunities for talented people to move laterally, and advance their career without going into management.

    Pros

    Cons

internal employee feedback(mspoll) is just useless. Hard to make voice due to internal politics and so on.

    Advice to Management

Windows team doesn't not doing good job any longer. Company strategy for Windows should be changed.

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits. Good exposure to competitive environment and coworkers are generally good to work with. Cafeteria on site.

    Cons

Little work life balance. Hours unpredictable. Stressful. Managements demands on employees are out of touch with reality. Very little bandwidth for extra projects yet that is how you are measured for bonuses
