I worked at Microsoft part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, fully stocked kitchen (snacks and drinks), nice pay, great benefits (if you're lucky enough to be hired on full-time)

    Cons

strong workplace politics, they will push part-time schedules as close to full-time as they can (think 38 hour work weeks), lots of drama

    Advice to Management

If upper management likes you, you will get a promotion. Management has obvious favorites. Too much drama.

    Pros

big company, great benefits, great networking, great learning opportunities

    Cons

politics, at times limited autonomy, lots of travel if not in Redmond WA

    Advice to Management

bad at merging business units, big and too slow to move so give Business Teams autonomy to make bold decisions

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Microsoft full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, nice work space.

    Cons

All type A personalities - they preach teamwork, but then reward only a few people that take credit for all that team work.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the calibration already - you overlook good people, and often.

Good pay and benefits. Clean environment to work in. Decent work-life balance schedule. Working with cutting edge technologies and product development processes. Great colleagues to work with and learned from.

    Cons

Changes in business cycles and technology trends can lead to swift and massive layoffs. However, layoff packages are generous and include outplacement and career transition services.

    Advice to Management

Top leadership needs to improve their presence at remote sites.

I have been working at Microsoft (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Better top management now with Satya at the helm, the future looks bright
For the most part great benefits and competitive salary
Awesome product line in Surface, XBOX, Hololens, etc

    Cons

401k matching is far from best in class
Speed of executing projects can improve further

    Advice to Management

Look at a competitive 401k matching
    Keep driving innovations aggressively

I worked at Microsoft full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. Large company. Lots of opportunities for management. Clear focus on ubiquitous computing, i.e. cloud computing after Satya Nadella took over.

    Cons

Work-life balance absent. Long hours, code bureaucracy (ownership). Based on Satya Nadella's new focus on cloud computing, embedded software focus diminished.

    Advice to Management

Great with clear focus. I respect the clear communications on the visions of the company. Unfortunately former and current CEO's did not agree on the direction of the company sacrificing lots of employees. Would be great to introduce a human factor at that level.
