I have been working at Microsoft part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, and opportunities, such as networking and being apart of influential events. Benefits include medical coverage and tuition reimbursement for even part timers.

    Cons

Inconsistency between managers and lack of structure and discipline. In retail, its usually a younger staff which has a younger mindset or lack of energy or customer-obsession.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a consistent structure. People need to held accountable for lack of performance.

I worked at Microsoft (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Strong post-MBA immersion program

    Cons

    - Teams were competing with each other, resulting in combative culture
    - Data and systems were not integrated, people spend lots of time on manual tasks which should be automated

    Advice to Management

    - embrace technology and make the life of your employees much easier

    Pros

Peers are very smart and of high caliber - some of the smartest people around. Pay is on par with the industry and the benefits are exceptional.

    Cons

Top managed from Redmond - Satellite office, despite being quite large, had little autonomy. Yearly re-orgs and constant management re-shuffling. Corporate climate is more competitive and adversarial than collaboratory. Although it kept you on your toes, I believe it is detrimental for achieving the overall goals of the company.

    Advice to Management

Foster a more collaborative environment between groups. As it is now, each group hoards their own information and technology. Relinquish some control and let the groups in the Silicon Valley (and other places too) have more autonomy - they are after all in their home turf attempting to compete with other large companies in the area.

Great Benefits, Good Pay, Challenging, First-Hand Look at new Product, Cool Work Environment

    Cons

Management Favoritism, Not about customers, Personal "High School Clicks", Not "TEAM" driven, Over Focused on Sales

You have lost focus on the big picture. Our Customers. Our store has be come more focused on numbers and driving sales were loosing business. Last I knew employee moral was down and workers were over tired. Regain your focus.
