    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great company that gives it's employees a load of benefits including ability to grow professionally. Customer centric.

    Cons

Not incredibly innovative. Very bureaucracy heavy. Not a great place to be a woman leader - must fit into a mold of how to act/lead.

    Advice to Management

Be open to various forms of leaders. There isn't a one size fits all way to lead. Innovation is hard to process and operationalize. Innovation is in every group not just engineering. The time suck of the business reviews compared to the value out, was horrendous. Loads of duplication.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Large company with many exciting opportunities and job mobility. Well resourced with promising long term strategy. Compensation and benefits are generous.

    Cons

Negative culture at headquarters with over-functioning engineering team. Cross company initiatives are slowed by too many silos and approvals. "Growth hacking" is promoted in word but restrained by bureaucracy in action.

    Advice to Management

Drive clearer swim lanes between engineering, marketing and sales. Enable cross-company initiatives instead of promoting territorialism. Promote positive and collaborative culture.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to move around the company in various roles; strong overall compensation; flexible work environment

    Cons

Lack of agility; too many turf battles; lack of progressive marketing vision and execution; less meritocratic at senior levels

    Advice to Management

Move quicker (although the pace of change is better under Satya in engineering, the same is not true)

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Company allows for people to move around to new roles and opportunities to grow their careers beyond one function or industry. Microsoft is large enough that you can be in the games industry for part of your career and the mobile device industry as another part without having to leave the company

    Cons

The company shift functional areas organization has limited the impact a single individual can have on business beyond their core function. When Microsoft had smaller division and team of cross function people you could be doing Product Management and Planning while also doing business management all in the same role.

    Advice to Management

Make Innovation the core of what Microsoft does. Lead with Innovation, New Ideas and a bold vision that captures the imagination of the market and employees. Inspire and lead the industry.
