I worked at Microsoft full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great vision, great culture. Reward is decent too. Very open. If you want to continue your career in Tech industry, experience at MSFT will be really helpful.

    Cons

In subsidiaries, great company culture sometimes declined because it is mixed with country culture (esp. in Asian countries. Hierarchical work culture) Regional HQs want to centralize everything so that they can prove their reason to exist.

    Advice to Management

Senior leadership team should seriously look into employees’ feedback about their direct managers.

I worked at Microsoft as an intern (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I could co-work with brilliant people. Working time was flexible.
The restaurants in MSRA are cheap and nice. Beverages and snacks are provided everyday. The working environment was nice and I could access nice GPU servers. Generally, MSRA is a nice place to research and write papers.

    Cons

Most of people in MSRA talk in Chinese. The provided hotel by MSRA was not good. Salary was low. Air quality in Beijing is not good. The work in MSRA would be decided by mentor.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of emphasis and investment on cloud & open source is conducted by Microsoft. There are so many opportunities to contribute to that meaningful transformation to embrace open source community while committing to steady growth in cloud market. This is a really new start!

    Cons

You may need to find everything for yourself to catch up the dynamics and enable yourself accordingly. Working as a team is beautiful, but building a team is not always as easy & efficient as expected. Learn and learn and learn, and train yourself almost everyday. Getting help from colleagues should be considered ad next best.

    Advice to Management

More efforts to bridge the employees' emotional and skill gap to cloud & open source market would be needed to transform successfully in every aspect of the corporate operation.
