I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, great benefits, great story and vision under Satya.

    Cons

Crazy cloud quota, churn (I had 4 bosses in 1 year), ridiculous number of internal tools you won't even hear about and half of them don't work.

    Advice to Management

Get documentation under control. Simplify tooling.

Get people in management that actually understand the value of what you sell and why a customer might want it. They should have a better understanding of the level of effort required to migrate to Azure before they get to lead a sales team. They just repeat what the slide deck says. I could go on and on....

Great company, great vision as of late, but just doing what every sales org does wrong; they hire numbers people, and not problem solvers with a passion for technology. I can't tell you how many times my manager(s) ignored my questions, suggestions or requests and then a day later asked about my pipeline.

Put people in management that are technical, but can also sell. They will be able to guide sellers, help them with messaging, and connect with customers. Do something different!

I hit my numbers. When I resigned, my manager didn't even ask why. He said that he would put in positive comments and recommend me for rehire.

He missed the absolute root of the problem.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I love the benefits here. In addition to the standard dental, health, 401K; also little perks like Stay Fit reimbursements (on gym memberships, workout gear, etc), tuition reimbursement, and even adoption fees. Great CEO, he has completely done an overhaul and started to shift the culture and mission in a huge way.

    Cons

The largest downside is that receiving internal job transfers/promotions is exceedingly more challenging than I would have ever imagined. Also, pay increases are very low each year, and in my role, the bonuses are insignificant.

    Advice to Management

Please try your best to value and invest in current employees, so they don't become jaded. People are the single greatest commodity of an organization and often it feels like we are disposable when we give our all.

I worked at Microsoft as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

There are some incredibly intelligent and talented professionals here

    Cons

    1. Lack of Mature Communication
Communication is a one-way street. You'll be talked down to daily because you're not a real Microsoft employee. But the worst was when emotions got out of control. Imagine accidentally catching someone doing something they weren't supposed to, followed by a tense and defensive discussion. Now try asking for PTO, informing management that a Macros report isn't working, or even just asking a clarifying question. It's awkward when uncontrolled emotions is the norm.

    2. No real skills to gain: Mostly copying and pasting data into Excel Macros, sending system-generated reports, or making basic account changes. A high-schooler could do this job. Don't be fooled thinking the company name "Microsoft" will carry you forward in your career. Don't hold your breath for a promotion with high-school-level skills either.
