    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

salary and benefits are top notch and you get to work with the latest and greatest technologies on the bleeding edge of their development cycle

    Cons

companies performance management tools hinder people managers from promoting top talent and can end up handicapping good employees who aren't willing to play political games internally with high management execs

    Advice to Management

rethink how you reward employees and how you rank them against one another - promote collaboration and coordination among peers and cross groups rather forcing them to always be competing with one another

I worked at Microsoft full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Employee empowerment, thrive for excellence and innovation - usually benevolent management - one of the first tech companies to adopt flexi working

    Cons

Having to use and trial exclusively Microsoft tools sometimes was frustrating and counterproductive - the stackranking performance review created useless competition between teams and people that should have been working together - they got rid of it since - a few cases of toxic management, but usually got dealt within reasonable timeframe

    Advice to Management

    Keep transforming !

I have been working at Microsoft full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some of the brightest people in the industry work here - creating amazing results for customers Ability to really make a difference

    Cons

The travel and expense systems are truly terrible - makes travelling on business tedious Recent local decisions on a range of benefits show short termism and penny pinching Performance system getting better but employees have very little (no) input into their end of year outcomes Hitting arbitrary scorecards far too important. Needs to focus on doing the right thing for the customer Progression based solely on internal...

    Advice to Management

Remove the roadblocks to productivity - travel and expense tools that make travelling hard, scorecards that are self-serving and not reflective of doing a good job, and speed up performance management process change
