I have been working at Microsoft as a contractor

    Pros

Decent pay is about it- but you can do better in Seattle at other companies.

    Cons

Everything else- horrible environment run by dudes on the spectrum.

    Advice to Management

With 72% of your workforce being men, it's long past time to reset the balance. Also, harassment by all those mens towards the outnumbered women is NOT OKAY.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are second only to amazon and google. Other companies in other industries do not come close with benefits. Excellent vision , mindset and leadership from the CEO Satya Nadella.

    Cons

In the field, for sales and services it is really all about hitting your numbers vs what the CEO says the bison is, which is being customer obsessed. Forcing customers to buy what you need them to buy to hit your sales numbers to get paid is not being customer obsessed it’s being obsessed with making money short term.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your corporate sales leaders are thinking long term vs making a buck this quarter to keep the street happy.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you like stasis, indecision, and lack of drive... great place to look for a plot.

    Cons

Too many to outline, this is not the company you were looking for.

    Advice to Management

Wipe it all clean and start with a new slate of individuals who actually understand... everything. Stop hiring retail execs to run a supposed forward leaning Software and Cloud Services company. Also, there are medications and treatments for adult onset ADD... seek them out before making any more decisions.

    Cons

Can be a challenge getting past internal hurdles (mostly from HQ)

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

MS is changing in a good way. BUs are aligning strategies and there is less infighting. With these changes come opportunities to leverage work done by others to increase the value of the brand as a whole.

    Cons

Change is painful. The strategies to do so require some layoffs and reorganizations. So, some are impacted.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. ONE Microsoft is better than a siloed Microsoft for everyone including Wall Street.
