I worked at Microsoft as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay for the position, looks good on the resume, and you get really good experience. Lots of work from home opportunities.

    Cons

As a contractor, be prepared to have FTE's treat you nicely in meetings and ignore you in the hallway. No chance for pay raises, and mandatory 6 months off unless your are on a managed service. Benefits are bad since you're getting them from your recruiting agency.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of vendors and contractors, just hire people.

I have been working at Microsoft as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good Life/work balance
    Usually pretty happy people
Good vision of where they are going
Pay is good for the work done

    Cons

Contractors are looked down upon, you cannot go very far in a contractor role and conversions are at an all time low.

    Advice to Management

Upper management has an idea of what is going on, there is currently a shake up from the top down and I feel they are going in a good direction.

    Pros

Enterprise level tools with very creative people from everywhere in the world.

Management buffers their own position by hiring incompetent support companies from India while laying off competent local contractors.

    Advice to Management

No standard for competence in Indian support is lazy and will be the death of Microsoft.
