I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are great here but I would argue on par with other companies this size. I believe in Microsoft's mission and Satya is greatness!

    Cons

Microsoft culture has not made it to the data centers. Data Centers are grey cubicles and extremely boring to work in.

    Advice to Management

Build good leaders in GDCO. Take the time to develop people. Learning and Development is weak. It seems like people don't matter.

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, 401k, Medical, Dental, Vision, ESPP are all excellent.

    Cons

Microsoft Data center's have terrible morale and no career structure, if you are looking for long term goals and career growth look else where.

    Advice to Management

Stop the favoritism and nepotism, you have successfully aided a culture where throwing your team mates under the buss gets you ahead.

I worked at Microsoft as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay, minimal micro management, schedule freedom, brilliant developers

    Cons

No transparency - left in the dark constantly. No inclusion in process meetings despite first hand experience in processing - just another cog in a massive system with a ridiculous disconnect between manager and employee.

    Advice to Management

IT service positions that are contracted should have a limit to contract duration where high performers have a smooth, clear transition process to FTE.

I worked closely with many long-term business admins/executive admins who were clueless in regards to technology. They would push their work onto anyone willing to do it and claim the success for themselves.

I have been working at Microsoft (More than a year)

    Pros

Great teams of people. There is definitely a lot of people to learn from. Good atmosphere. Some perks in the office, but most importantly....free soda!

    Cons

Tiny fish in a big pond. Company is massive, so often the individual employee is forgotten. It is hard to communicate to the higher ups. The presence of an older company model is still felt.

    Advice to Management

More incentives to employees on the low end of the pay range scale. Open perks to all employees, both full time and vendor.
